Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky coined the term “zone of proximal development” to describe the space just beyond a learner’s independent ability - but in which they can find success with the support of a more capable other.

What a lovely example we have here. This sweet little one struggles mightily to regulate her disappointment when asked to come inside from playtime, but - with strategies suggested by mom - manages to work through the moment without a meltdown. (And that breath!)
