Your situation and mine are very similar - we're mired in debt and only the eventual sale of the house makes any forward progress possible. NC requires that one person move out for at least a year before filing, and it took a lot of shuffling to afford the mortgage and my apartment. And the legal process has been ruinously expensive.

It was still worth it. There's no getting along or fixing anything with someone that doesn't want to cooperate. Yeah, the money problem sucks, but you'll feel so much better when you're out.
