@jockowillink conspiratorial tone is utterly unnecessary.
who is "they?" in this case, you can just say california's environmental review laws, red tape and featly to activist groups which only care about stopping the building of things .. is bad and is at fault.
We are pleased to see @ZohranKMamdani celebrating the richness of Hindu traditions and the spirit of community that these festivals embody.
Recognizing and embracing the diverse faiths and traditions that shape New York is an important step toward building a more inclusive society where every community feels valued and respected.
@Rajarajan2023@Ami_rs45 defending against islamism does not require becoming juvenile idiots.
you should not hate muslims. have both defensive or aggressive posture against islamism.
treat ppl as individuals on 1:1 level AND take no shit on the qaum level. none of those requires this interview bs.
Islamic extremism is not new to Bengal.
In 1931, writer Bholanath Sen published an artistic image of prophet Muhammad in his book for children.
For this, Islamists killed him and his 2 associates at his publishing house.
one of the formative moments of my young life was when I derived this same thing in 4th grade & excitedly told my teacher, and she looked at the other kids and rolled her eyes and everyone laughed at what a loser I was
MUSLIM ASKS ISRAELI: WILL YOU FORGIVE ME?
Romi Gonen's sister sits down with an Arab Muslim man, who asks for forgiveness.
"90 percent of the people that commit these [Hamas] crimes look like me."
"They speak the same language, the same skin color. I will ask you to forgive me for what my people did to yours?"
Romi's sister responds.
"I will never be angry at someone like you, just because what [Hamas] did. I can't wear hatred on myself of someone I don't know just because you look or sound like them. That's not how I was raised."
"Don't be sorry."
Hamas "chose that.... they could have chosen differently."
DEAR CHRISTIANS, HINDUS, BUDDHISTS AND PEOPLE OF EVERY FAITH: I HAVE REACHED MY BREAKING POINT.
Effective immediately, I no longer identify as a Muslim.
The killing of the Bangladeshi couple has deeply traumatized me, shaken my beliefs and forced me to confront questions I can no longer ignore.
Between love and an AK-47, I choose love.
Between humility, kindness and a machete, I choose kindness.
Between embracing my neighbour and spilling their blood in the name of God, I choose humanity.
I am ready for my pork, my beer 🍻, my hugs, my laughter and the freedom to love my neighbours without fear.
I want to sit with happy people, respect different beliefs and live without being told that somebody must die because they offended another person's God.
ALLLAH DID NOT CREATE HUMANITY SO THAT HUMAN BEINGS COULD ENSLAVE, TERRORIZE OR SLAUGHTER ONE ANOTHER IN HIS NAME.
I am an African.
A proud Kenyan.
A Luo.
Before any religious label, I am a human being, and I refuse to surrender my conscience to any ideology that demands blood as proof of devotion.
I cannot accept killing in the name of God.
I cannot accept shooting in the name of God.
I cannot accept decapitation in the name of God.
If your understanding of religion requires me to become a murderer to prove my faith, then I want no part of it.
If God needs me to kill on His behalf, I have serious questions about the god being presented to me.
My heart is tired of religious arguments that turn human suffering into a theological debate.
A dead person is not brought back to life because someone quotes scripture.
A grieving family does not find comfort in explanations about sacred places.
Brutality does not become righteous simply because the perpetrator claims divine authority.
I want a world where Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, atheists and people of every other conviction can live together without fearing one another.
I want faith that produces compassion, not terror; humility, not arrogance; peace, not bloodshed.
I will not pretend that every religion or religious community is responsible for the actions of its extremists.
Nor will I condemn innocent people because of the beliefs they hold.
I will question, without apology, every ideology, institution and authority that excuses cruelty in the name of the sacred.
MY HUMANITY IS NOT NEGOTIABLE.
MY CONSCIENCE IS NOT FOR SALE.
NO RELIGION WILL CONVINCE ME THAT ANOTHER HUMAN BEING'S BLOOD IS THE PRICE OF MY SALVATION.
I choose love. I choose kindness. I choose Africa. I choose humanity.
And I refuse to be ashamed of choosing life over religiously justified violence.
It’s not just that any person who has given this a single iota of critical thought knows this statistic is baloney; there are costs to spreading a lie like this insofar as it wrecks social trust and changes how we treat each other
@katrosenfield the common rightoid refrain of "Obama made America a shitlib hellscape" is never backed up w anything real, but the one actual, massive (and utterly destructive) change Obama wrought was w this letter which did actually change culture to a "no men presumed innocent" one.
@katrosenfield Interestingly, Obama's big political legacies are considered the ACA and JCPOA, but arguable the single biggest cultural legacy w/ seismic impact is his admin's awful "Dear Colleague" letter which really made any realistic discussion of campus sexual assault impossible.
The thing where one is obliged to pretend to believe this obviously false but politically convenient statistic in order to remain a liberal in good standing is one of those things that used to just kinda grate on me but after 25 years has driven me fully up the wall
People like me who are questioning the beheading of two innocents are poison and the person who executed women for not wearing Hijab is role model for you?
How did we survive as a nation man....just how?
My relationship with gods is complicated....but nah man. The must exist. What other explanation is there!
A message for Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦
If you can’t respect
humans and human rights, then perhaps Saudi shouldn't be importing millions from all over the world, to help running your country!
Let Saudis run Saudi Arabia with your barbaric laws!
Remember how, amid chants of Allah-u-Akbar, the State had granted thousands of Muslims to bid a teary-eyed farewell to SA Basha, mastermind of the Coimbatore terror attack that killed 58? Well, today the State has granted parole to five of his accomplices.
You can't do anything.
Sir,you know me for years .
So many muslim men have abused me badly in these years using caste slurs ,body shaming and character assassination for my political stand. I have always written about it on social media with the screen shot of the abuses .
In this yeare never have you ever spoken for me . Not a single time .
Today when I call out someone who is justifying the Saudi beheading of two Bangladeshi's , and retaliating for the humiliation of my background by that guy , you are calling it as Islamophobia.
I've never seen so much Hypocrisy in my life . Even with the RW.
Unbelievable unity in patriarchal values.
I complain plenty about Oakland city government. But at dinner 2yo swallowed something wrong and started choking. She was still breathing, but with difficulty. When she couldn't talk or make sounds above a whisper we called 911.
You're not supposed to do the Heimlich if the airway is only partially obstructed, apparently, but this meant there was nothing to do at all except stand there and encourage her to cough. "Yell," we would suggest to her between coughs, and she'd make these concerning little whistley sounds.
I think the first police officer was on our doorstep in like 3 minutes, and a fire truck and ambulance within 5. Of course the minute they arrived she coughed successfully and was completely fine.
But if she hadn't been - and when this kind of thing happens it's impossible not to play out what happens if it hadn't been - help was minutes away.
Sometimes it feels like I owe more to our civilization than I could ever possibly repay. I write blog posts, and raise kids, and if I ever need it a dozen strangers will be at my doorstep with unfathomably complicated emergency medicine. I am grateful to the cops and the firefighters and the paramedics and the city of Oakland. I will probably sentimentally vote for some of the bond issues I was on the fence about even though we already have the highest taxes in the Bay.
She's fine. We sang happy birthday to her Mommy a couple minutes later, and she sang the loudest.
