🧵1⃣ As Iran launches missiles at our ally #Israel , let's remember it was NDP's @heathermcpherson that tabled a motion to stop even the defensive arm sales to Israel and recognize Palestinian statehood, without fully understanding the basic framework of the #Oslo accord. So why did Heather McPherson and the NDP table this motion? To sum it up : The NDP does NOT give two rats ass about the Palestinians. They want to pocket Muslim votes from the Liberals in the GTA and Vancouver.

Let me break it down for you with facts and data.

2⃣ The Muslim community in Canada, which has historically provided strong support to the Liberal Party, is now seen as a key demographic in the forthcoming elections. In 2015, A post-election poll by @MainStResearch pegged Canadian Muslim voter turnout at 79% . National turnout in that election was 68.5%.

In the 2021 federal election, there were over 100 ridings across Canada in which the total number of potential Muslim voters exceeds the predicted margin of victory. That is more than 30% of all ridings in Canada!

Support for the ruling Liberal party has slumped to a mere 24% recently. There's little doubt that the NDP's decision to champion Palestinian statehood has a significant electoral undercurrent, aiming to endear itself to Muslim voters disillusioned by the Liberals' often ambiguous stance on the latest Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Let's look at the motion NDP's @HMcPhersonMP tabled. Part of it calls for the establishment of two states. But here is the thing. Israelis and Palestinians have expressed in recent opinion polls that they do not support a two-state solution.

According to a latest @Gallup poll, 65% of Israelis said they are against an independent Palestinian State existing alongside Israel, a complete reversal of a decade ago. 72% of Palestinians polled are also against a two-state solution.

The Two State solution is Dead on Arrival. Why even pretend anymore? And unless the current dynamic of the war is altered, there’s a real risk that Hamas will, indeed, get stronger in the West Bank at the expense of the Fatah-dominated PA.

4⃣ When the NDP tabled its motion 3 weeks ago, how much research has their staffer done on the #OsloAccord? Probably Not Very Much.

When Yasser Arafat, the then leader of the Palestinian Liberation Organization signed onto the Oslo Accord back in 1993, he committed to not only a negotiated settlement of land for the creation of a Palestinian state but also security guarantees for Israel, meaning no more terrorist attacks against the Jewish state.

5⃣ The NDP’s motion sponsored by @HMcPhersonMP
willfully ignored the critical issue of terrorist groups like Hamas and their commitment to continued violence, incompetence, and the lack of serious Palestinian leadership, and most importantly, the ignorance of the majority of the Palestinian people and their complete skewed view of the reality on the ground. Their future statehood if there is one, will not be from the river to the sea.

This oversimplification serves more as a political maneuver aimed at securing Canadian Muslim votes rather than contributing to a genuine, lasting solution for peace in the region.

6⃣ While appealing to specific demographic groups is a reality of electoral politics, there must be a line drawn when it comes to matters of peace and justice on the global stage. The NDP's recent motion represents a glaring example of short-sighted politicking, prioritizing ethnic vote collection over genuine community service.

By choosing division over unity, they revealed their party’s startling lack of vision. This tactic is aimed at wedging votes away from the Liberals in urban centers.

As we approach the next election cycle, it's crucial for Canadian Muslims and all ethno-cultural communities to look beyond surface appeals to the substantive actions and long-term policy commitments of political parties. The NDP's move may well have opened Pandora's box, but it's the discerning voter who holds the key to closing it.
