Analysis on VA #ECLS in CS:
🔹obese pts: significantly lower % of predicted flow rates but similar lactate clearances
🔹BMI ≥35 kg/m2: similar complication rates vs cohorts, but more likely to require CVVH
🔹survival 48%, no differences between cohorts

On March 2 in 1928, Nina Starr Braunwald, the first female cardiac surgeon, was born. She led the first team to replace a human heart valve (that she also designed), first woman certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and first woman elected to the AATS.
On this day in 1954, Lillehei and his team performed his first open heart operation, a repair of a VSD using crosscirculation in a 15-month-old boy. An adult (usually a parent) with the same blood type was used more or less as the heart-lung machine.
Significant decrease in hematologic/neuro/renal complications reported in this analysis since implementation of standardized anticoagulation protocol. In postprotocol era fewer RBCs/cryoprecipitate transfusions; PLTs/fibrinogen levels higher. @asaiojournal https://t.co/RHWJhItytD
#Telehealth alerts patient to #aorticdissection while on 400-mile drive. Stops at the nearest hospital for diagnosis & treatment https://t.co/kh4MofrvQE The epitome of reducing barriers to care @valahealth@ceo4vala @ADCollab
I'm not influencer, and just (tweet) starter... but, this is so important. In my country, many hospitals don't want to support aorta surgery part.
