🚨 Cannabis, psychosis, and violence deserve greater attention.
A new evidence review and case report analysis warns that today’s high-potency THC products may contribute to psychosis and, in some cases, subsequent violence.
The authors report:
- Daily use of high-potency cannabis—above 10% THC—is associated with a fivefold higher risk of psychotic disorder.
- Cannabis-induced psychosis has the highest reported transition rate to schizophrenia among substance-induced psychoses: 34%–47%.
- Adolescents who use cannabis face a substantially increased risk of psychotic disorders.
Following cannabis legalization in Canada, emergency visits for cannabis-induced psychosis increased by 40.4%.
The authors also describe violent cases preceded by cannabis use, paranoia, delusions, or hallucinations. These case reports do not prove that cannabis caused every violent act, but they expose a serious gap: toxicology testing often excludes THC, even when cannabis-associated psychosis is suspected.
Medical professionals, law enforcement, policymakers, and families must recognize the warning signs and take high-potency THC seriously. Psychosis is complex—but cannabis can be a contributing risk factor that should not be ignored.

Have you ever wondered why some neighborhoods have higher rates of substance use than others?
Take a look around. Some communities have far more liquor stores, cannabis businesses, smoke shops, and substance-related advertising than others.
This isn't by accident.

When Cannabis Is Used Every Day
Why regular cannabis use is fundamentally different from occasional use.
Updated July 11, 2026 |
KEY POINTS
- Daily cannabis use is very different from occasional use.
- Repeated THC exposure may gradually shift the brain into a different operating state.
- Feeling "normal" after cannabis may mean return to an adapted brain state, not the brain's original baseline.
- The brain learns what it repeats. The same neuroplasticity underlying addiction also makes recovery possible.
