@serialswaghaver having been to both a bunch i would definitely describe asheville as nicer to visit than richmond, but pretty touristy. richmond has more important historical stuff than asheville but otherwise sort of sucks imo

@femme_seme i usually just read BL but i decided to maybe start checking out some yuri recently. when i asked around for "something fucked up and toxic" most of the stuff i got recommended was tamer than Given. like am i right that that's nothing or are my standards just too high now

@chromalescence @AryaTheOpossum @Leonbringer i think the aesthetic focus of some of the '10s indie scene was another example of putting the insecure desire to have the medium be viewed with the respect of art before before actual artistic engagement with the medium. even some actually very creative games got caught in it

@chromalescence @AryaTheOpossum @Leonbringer i remember ~10 years ago when the indie game scene was getting big and everyone was trying to prove how artistic games could be, so many people kept hedging their arguments with "sure, of course dumb commercial stuff like call of duty isn't art..."

@chromalescence @AryaTheOpossum @Leonbringer that kind of person who claims to want games to be recognized as art but actually just wants the status that comes with it is often openly hostile to attempts to analyze games as art, too! they aren't willing to have the stuff they face serious artistic criticism like other art
