I have to say, Subaru barely did anything wrong here. If the anime had faithfully adapted the original source material instead of cutting out Roswaal’s insults toward Emilia and Julius’ insults toward Subaru and Al, Emilia and Julius would’ve gotten absolutely roasted.

Anyone saying that is an idiot. Episode 16 didn't feel awful only because the source novel was brilliant to begin with, not because the anime adaptation did a good job. They took 120-point source material, watered it down to a 60, and you're here saying it looks decent.

Before seeing this post, I was just criticizing WF and Yokotani. Now I honestly feel like outright attacking them. How the fuck do you turn a 120/100 episode into a barely passing 60? lmao.

I was attacked so many times, received death threats, and got tons of hate comments just for saying WHITE FOX and KADOKAWA did a bad job (lol). But at the end of the day, I was right. WHITE FOX completely fumbled the "Natsuki Subaru" episode. Many people still refuse to accept it, but that is the reality.

Putting all that drama aside, I started looking into fan-made animations for Arc 6 because the official episode left me completely unsatisfied. I wanted to see what kind of creative ideas passionate fans could bring to the table, and I found these two short animations that blew me away:

1️⃣ The first video covers the "You're an amazing guy, Natsuki Subaru" scene: The camera angles are far superior to WHITE FOX's version. The close-ups on the faces and mouths deliver the exact raw emotional depth the scene needed. It is simply an outstanding animation. Turns out it CAN be done, WHITE FOX! The same goes for the fans who claimed "it couldn't be done better than the official cut."

2️⃣ The second video covers the "You're a monster!" scene: The camera angles here are very well thought out. While the flashback presentation is simple, it is more than enough for a fan project. The impact and transition of the Japanese title card were executed so well. But what follows is pure creativity! The visual depiction of how Rui perceives Subaru -the sheer psychological weight and horror- is unbelievable.

Also, the full reflection of Rui in Subaru's eye was a fantastic detail! In Re:Zero, full reflections in an eye carry deep meaning: seeing someone without illusions and truly accepting them for who they are. While this animation ends with Subaru simply saying "Rui Arneb, you lose." -unlike the novel and official anime where he also declares "I won't save you"- that full reflection in his eye acts as incredible foreshadowing for his actions in Arc 7!
