In August, on my grandson’s 9th birthday, I gave my daughter $500 to seed his 530A Trump Account.
When the account opened, @MichaelDell and Susan Dell’s $250 hit it. That was the moment he got excited. He wanted to see the app. He wanted to see “his” money.
We did not stop at a one-time gift. We turned it into a weekly habit.

A child who owns a slice of those companies becomes a capitalist. A child who only hears that wealth should be handed out becomes a spectator.

A California school district that required fifth graders to use a book promoting cross-sex gender identities and then lead kindergarten “buddies” through a related activity—with no parental notice or opt-out—will pay $175,000 to settle the suit. It also agreed to give parents notice and a chance to opt out of gender-ideology instruction and other material that substantially conflicts with their religious beliefs.

A federal court had already preliminarily enjoined Encinitas Union’s elementary buddy program. Judge Lorenz found the families were likely to succeed on a First Amendment compelled-speech claim: the fifth graders were required to present My Shadow Is Pink and help kindergarteners pick a color “representing” their gender identity, then trace the child’s shadow in that color. The injunction said the buddy program could not include gender-identity topics covered in health instruction unless parents received advance notice and an opt-out.

The district had argued that notice and opt-out were unnecessary because the lesson was not “health” instruction. California law already lets religious parents opt out of health lessons that conflict with their beliefs.

The court did not hold that the buddy period was a health unit under the Education Code. It held that the “not health, so no opt-out” line was no defense to the federal speech claim for this program. The settlement vacates that injunction but adopts a broader district policy of notice and opt-out.

California’s attorney general and education department have told districts Mahmoud is fact-specific and does not repeal inclusive-curriculum statutes. Encinitas tested a hard version of that stance, lost a PI, dropped its appeal after Mahmoud, and paid to end the case. Other California districts that treat state guidance as a reason to deny religious opt-outs outright are now the ones being sued.

A district that will rename your kid, put them in the opposite locker room, punish classmates for ordinary language, and then decide whether you get to know has stopped being a school. It has become a rival and a dangerous adversary.
