What a game! Carroll wins its 9th straight to defeat Boswell 2-0 in the bi-district opener.
Sophomore LHP AJ Bonnette @AjBonnette44 threw an 8-inning, complete game shut-out, punching out 1⃣5⃣. He took a perfect game into the 5th and only allowed 3 base-runners, one of which was erased on a caught stealing by Cooper Newby @CooperNewby44.
The game was scoreless at the end of regulation, before Shawn Arterburn @ShawnArterburn executed a perfect slash play in the top of the 8th to drive in the Dragons' only runs and provide the final margin.
Bonnette's final line, 8IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 1HBP, 15K on 112 pitches.
In addition to Arterburn's clutch game-winning hit, Newby doubled and Dane Thornton @GameDane_ tripled to pace the offense.
The teams are scheduled to meet again tomorrow night, weather permitting, at Dragon Ballpark.
Southlake Carroll lost 7 of 8 District 4-6A games. A playoff streak that started in 1999 was in serious jeopardy.
But the Dragons won 7 consecutive 4-6A games, keeping hope alive. I took a look at how a bunch of sophomores turned things around. FEATURE: https://t.co/0q51ykbw3t
An instant classic vs. Keller Central!
Carroll stays undefeated for the month of April, winning their 7th straight game in a 6-5 victory.
Switch hitting catcher Cooper Newby @CooperNewby44 drove in the tying run in the 5th and the go-ahead run in the 7th in two of the biggest at bats of the year for the Dragons.
Cam Dean @cd33lefty once again sparked the offense on a 2-for-3 night with 2 runs scored and a walk. Shawn Arterburn @ShawnArterburn also collected a pair of hits.
Much like Saturday night vs. L.D. Bell, sophomore RHP Cason Austin @CasonAusti67093 inherited a bases loaded jam and was brilliant, giving up 0 R on 1 H across 2 1/3, punching out 4.
LHP Jackson Smith @Jackson__Smith1 was credited with the win, pitching a shutout in the 5th and 6th innings with 2 K's. Sophomore Gavin Morris @Gmorris2028 collected the final 3 outs for the save, including consecutive groundouts that he fielded himself to secure the victory.
For the 4th straight game, Dean led off, reached, and scored in the 1st to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead. Carroll would tack on 2 more in the 2nd to go up 3-0, before Central put up a 5-spot in the bottom of the inning to stake a 5-3 lead.
A pair of walks, a ground out, and a wild pitch in the 3rd made it 5-4, before Matthew Heredia @MatthewHeredi16 tripled in the 5th and Newby scored him with a line drive single to tie the game 5 all.
The score would stay knotted until the top of the 7th, when Dean drew a lead-off walk, Gavin Strange @GavinStrange1 laid down a sac bunt to move him to 2nd, and Newby's two-strike double to the left center gap plated the eventual game winner.
Carroll finishes 4-6A district play with an 8-8 record and concludes its regular season. They now await the outcomes of other district matchups during their bye week to determine their playoff fate.

Camden Dean (‘28 TX) with an intriguing look here. Strikes out 8 over 5 IP. Fastball 83-86 T87 with good life. Slider 75-77 (2470 RPM) and curve 70-74. Both have distinct shapes with good feel. Control scattered throughout outing but has the stuff. Ultra athletic 6-1 frame projectable and moves well. #PGHS
Carroll drops a wild, back-and-forth affair to Keller, getting the winning run into scoring position in the bottom of the 7th, before falling 9-8.
