The Finance Ministry has proposed a drastic reduction in medical school enrollment, considering an expected surplus of doctors due to the country's declining population. https://t.co/54ba5j8zqv
@0xkarasy I am not certain as to how these terms came about, but it could be that we get a shipload of students first and then a handful at a time on these boat rounds.
@0xkarasy To my knowledge that has not happened yet while there are steep declines in demand for many programs. This is true for a couple of programs at my university also. Clearest indication of this scenario is so-called "bottuwa" where UGC go around in cycles trying to fill vacancies.
We are having the SLIoT Challenge competition today (25.04.2026) at the University of Moratuwa. Come and cheer on the competitors from schools, universities, and open categories.
Join us at the University of Moratuwa on Sunday, 26th April 2026, from 9AM onwards to enjoy a spectacular show of robots, drones, and battlebots!

I was told recently about a school that was shamed into changing its school motto. The motto was "I hear, I see, I learn." Nothing wrong with that per se.Unfortunately the motto was in Latin, and the Latin for "I hear, I see, I learn" is "audio, video, disco".
In coming years, prospect of IT, CS and SE undergraduates encountering delayed completion of degree programs due to unavailability of internships is very real. Companies that used to support substantial internship intakes no longer have a need for such eager talent at low cost.
Annual report of the leading research center for analysis of health of global democracy, Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Institute at Gothenburg University says Sri Lanka is the ONLY country in South and Central Asia that is democratizing (upward trend from last evaluation).๐
@KusumW It would serve us well to remember what the former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said: to be an enemy of the United States is dangerous but to be a friend is fatal.
@KusumW This joke summarizes how our governments function across time epochs. First time: No funds. No fuel. Ration. Second time: Wait until No fuel (reduced to known problem) Ration (implement known solution).
