Did you know that viral #hepatitis is a leading cause of #livercancer globally?🤔

New research by @CDAFound finds that #hepatitis B and C infected individuals “have a similar or significantly higher risk of developing cancer than someone who actively smokes one pack of cigarettes per day.”

Our recent survey also shows that nearly half (42%) of people globally are unaware that one of the leading causes of liver cancer is viral hepatitis.

This #WorldHepatitisDay, we must continue to raise awareness about the dangers of this silent killer, hepatitis, to save lives!

#SaudiArabia is now on track to eliminate #HCV by 2030. Since 2014, 22K have been treated. In 2021 alone, >150K people were screened in primary healthcare & 340K people through premarital screening.

Impressed by collaborators in #Kazakhstan. In <1.5 months, screened >7,000 for #HBV & #HCV, tested VL & linked pts to care. MoH approved GPs to treat pts. Our pilot will end in 2 months & will be rolled out nationally.

A collaborative study in #Egypt showed the elimination of #HCV was highly cost effective by 2021 & cost saving by 2029. Egypt will save $35M in direct costs and $4.7B in indirect costs by 2030.

In discussions with local experts, there is also an exemption for rural areas where access to PCR is limited. In those setting, HBsAg+ is sufficient to start treatment. 🙌🏻
