@nayibbukele Totalmente de acuerdo. Es imposible financiar la conservación ambiental desde la miseria. Los países desarrollados no tienen ríos limpios porque dejaron de producir, sino porque alcanzaron la riqueza necesaria para invertir en tecnología y saneamiento.

The key to saving the environment is not looking backward, it’s moving forward.

I realized this the first time I visited Italy twenty years ago. Everything was clean and green. The rivers sparkled. The lesson for me was obvious: the answer is not underdevelopment. The answer is progress.

When China was poor, the air was so polluted that people could barely see the blue sky. Today, blue skies have returned to their cities. Development does not only create wealth, it also provides the resources needed to restore and protect the environment.

Some environmentalists want us to preserve every aspect of our biodiversity, including the mosquitoes for example, so that researchers can fly in once every ten years from their universities (which build particle accelerators and billion-dollar laboratories with their pocket money), study our ecosystems, and count how many people died from dengue outbreaks.

They want to buy our air through carbon credits. If carbon credits were such a great deal, they would be selling them to us, not the other way around.

Cleaning every river, lake, and water source in El Salvador, and ensuring they remain clean and sparkling, would cost roughly $12 billion. Where is that money supposed to come from without economic development? Carbon credits?

The path forward for our country is the path of Japan and Singapore, not the path of the Congo.

Las anomalías de temperaturas en la región utilizada por la NOAA para monitorear El Niño (conocida como la región Niño 3.4) se encuentra en niveles récord para esta época del año y, hasta ahora, el calentamiento ha ocurrido más rápido que en otros eventos fuertes de El Niño que comenzaron en 2023, 2015, 1997 y 1982. Por lo general, las condiciones de El Niño alcanzan su punto máximo durante los meses de finales de otoño o invierno.

This morning conditions in the Eastern Pacific met the criteria for El Niño. This means Sea Surface Temps reached a certain level above normal, and the ocean and atmosphere “coupled” meaning they are now working in tandem to produce impacts. This event is widely advertised by models to be potentially the strongest on record. El Niño takes very hot water stored in the deep tropical west Pacific, pushing it east and up to the surface, lofting that heat into the atmosphere, which supercharges weather events and throws the climate off-kilter. This typical means more intense heatwaves & floods, but also it restrains the Atlantic hurricane season. So its impacts are both good and bad. One thing seems virtually certain: the heat released into the atmosphere will make for some unprecedented events through 2027, and on top of longterm warming, the hottest global temperatures in many tens of 1000s of years. #ElNino #florida #storm #heatwave #flood #drought
