🐾2-y/o Gabby arrived early May whale-eyed & trembling, spent time w/ finder who said she was very gentle & was friendly w/ cats. She has made huge improvements at ACC but still made the list. Timid, sensitive, mellow, housetrained, asks for attn, walks well on a leash, knows basic cues. She is doing her best even though she is very scared. Loves hot dogs. They have roamed America's open land for centuries.
Wild. Free. Untouchable by law.

Right now, helicopters are chasing them down.

The BLM is conducting large-scale roundups across the West—thousands of wild horses and
burros pursued to exhaustion, separated from their
families, and loaded into government holding facilities.

In those pens, herds are broken apart. Stallions fight in close quarters.
Horses built for open land crash into the bars of their enclosures in desperate escape attempts.

The leading cause of death in holding facilities is traumatic injury.

Over 64,000 wild horses and burros are already warehoused in these facilities. More arrive every day.

And every budget cycle, the administration tries to open the door to slaughter. Project 2025 calls them a problem to be "disposed of.

Congress has pushed back - so far. But without permanent protection, this fight never ends.

If slaughter isn’t the goal, why keep removing the protections against it?

Barbie is a stray who is shaking in her kennel, overwhelmed by the shelter. This sweet girl just needs a little time to warm up. After some gentle attention, she showed a sweet tail wag and even gave kisses to an employee who sat with her. Barbie has hair loss on her belly, underside, and legs, but her loving personality still shines through. She needs a rescue or adopter to help her feel safe again. ❤️🐾
