@Theo71627 Could write a book about living here and ways THE church influences/controls much more than people realize
Such a beautiful place but it’s a shame Brigham “found” it before anyone else
More fireworks are shot off in Utah for Pioneer Day (and weekend) than for the 4th of July
Are there any other states that celebrate a “founding” day like Utah?
The history surrounding Brigham Young and the early days of the Utah territory is fascinating (not in great ways)!
"Just put the fires out!"
Ever seen a boreal wildfire? I have. I used to fight them.
When fire behaviour becomes extreme, you're not getting close to them.
The radiant heat from a crown fire is face-melting from hundreds of metres away.
All attempts at direct attack will fail, because dropping water on it becomes akin to trying to spit on a campfire...it evaporates before it even hits the flames.
Additionally, reduced visibility, high winds, and turbulence makes aerial attack hazardous.
As a wildland firefighter, I've been extracted off of wildfires twice as our fires blew up, both times having our gear burned over. We returned to find firehoses and metal melted into the ash.
I've seen fireballs launched hundreds of feet high, and fires intense enough to produce lightning, influencing the weather around them. I've seen wildfires grow to the size of a major city in a short period of time.
So no, we can't just put the fire out.
Not being able to stop such a natural process is a truly humbling feeling.
It’s crazy how three firefighters lost their lives and this part of the country is in an all time drought, but people are worked up about not being able to shoot off fireworks for one weekend
Common sense is not common
- they need to learn the rules of the road and have drivers education/behind the wheel courses updated
- don’t stop when the light is green to let someone into traffic. You’re not being nice, you’re putting others in danger and causing longer backups
First day back driving in Utah after two weeks and here are takeaways on the drivers:
- they have slowest green light reaction time in the country
- their favorite pastime is sitting in unnecessary traffic
- they wouldn’t last two seconds on the roads in Europe
@UDOTTRAFFIC This interchange needs two lanes all the way around and there’s space for it too!
Left lane to merge onto 80 east and right lane to stay slow and get off onto state street
Too many near crashes from scared drivers braking and not getting up to speed before joining a 70mph road
Good morning Utah drivers! Reminder that your gas pedal exists and is supposed to be utilized when merging onto the highway!
Also - worry about what’s in front of you and don’t brake check when you’re going under the speed limit in the left lane!
Happy #Masters week!
If you remove free throws from everyone, Bam Adebayo's night would rank 73rd all-time.
Most points in single game
1. Wilt 100
2. Bam 83
3. Kobe 81
Most points without free throws
1. Wilt 72 (100-pt game)
2. Kobe 63 (81-pt game)
3. Wilt 62 (78-pt game)

“It’s weird. We want to win this game even though our ticket’s punched to the quarterfinals.” -Team USA manager Mark DeRosa earlier today
Team USA’s ticket was not, in fact, punched to the quarterfinals, and now they’re in danger of missing out
