The mediocre don't just quietly underperform. They hang out together.
* They hang out at the office together.
* They hang out at events together.
* They convince each other to do mediocre marketing programs.
* They convince each other 15%-20% growth is fine
* The convince each other it’s not fair to have challenging goals and plans to hit
* They convince each other it’s the VC’s fault, or the CEO’s fault, or the economy’s fault
* They are always underpaid and underappreciated
Move them quietly out by the end of the year -- with respect -- from your org. They may even thrive somewhere else, who knows.
And resist the urge to join communities that exist for them. They will drag you down inadvertently.
