@Cedar500 He wasn't my first choice and I'm still not a big fan of his but yeah I'll be voting for him over Stevens. Even if your only consideration is electability it's not at all clear to me that Haley "I see Israel in my dreams" Stevens wouldn't be significantly worse-off in the general
@brooklyncybele@DrewSav They don't represent Puerto Rico, they represent districts on the mainland. That's kinda the whole freaking point. The island can't have representation without statehood and most residents of the island want statehood. Diaspora communities in NYC shouldn't get a veto
I genuinely don’t understand why it’s so important that the federal reserve is independent. It seems like the tenth most important lever the president has for juicing the economy before an election in a long-term damaging way
@jaxonloid Just have them held at the post office and pick them up yourself. That way you don't have to worry about careless mail carriers, the weather, or the sun ruining your records
looking at old yellow pages covers as design reference for something and i’m growing increasingly convinced graphic design peaked sometime in the late 70s/early 80s
@pj22dog91309@hartache2@jacob_mauren@Roboticenginee1 Of course not, that's the problem. If a left-wing candidate is nominated and wins it's a vindication of leftism; if they lose it's because they were undermined by the establishment or whatever. They can't fail, they can only be failed
@Smaller_Mahler@StatisticUrban It's not overblown at all. As a Michigan voter, I'd be happy with Abdul as my senator. But Michigan is more than Metro Detroit. Really risky to ask the swingiest of swing states to vote for someone who is farther to the left than Bernie
@NickyFrank30 I partly agree and that's why I won't be too upset if Abdul wins the MI primary, but the problem is that the left never really accept their defeats. If Abdul loses the general, it'll be due to an "establishment conspiracy," not that voters genuinely don't like leftist candidates
@rhett_carlson@2024dion Columbus is unfairly maligned. Yes, there are low-density and suburban areas, but Columbus feels far less suburban and sprawling to me than Metro Detroit or even Greater STL. German Village, Vic Village, Short North, Clintonville, Bexley, et al. are highly walkable and charming.
@JohnSellek Downtown is generally not very busy. At certain times -- usually after events and in certain spots, like the Woodward retail corridor and the Capitol Park area -- yes. But, sadly, he's right that downtown Detroit is more of a playground for visitors than a real neighborhood.
@EastRockDon@aaronkfoley And the configuration of the highway system didn’t even achieve its supposed purpose of facilitating travel around the metro area. It still takes forever to get anywhere because they built a bunch of radial highways and no single orbital/belt highway. Destructive incompetence
@DE_Gifford There’s so much more to modern architecture than “glass boxes,” though. And HVAC is mostly a North American thing. I’ve lived in a modern apartments with lots of glass in Mexico and Australia without HVAC and it was fine. But anyway, contemporary encompasses a range of materials
