#OTD 64 years ago, Pete Ward (Montreal, Que.) made his MLB debut with the Baltimore Orioles.

With the O’s tied 1-1 with the Minnesota Twins, Ward pinch-hit for second baseman Marv Breeding in the seventh inning and hit a two-run single.

The O’s won the game 3-2.

September 19th Game Summaries

Week 20 of the Men's AAA Baseball Season wrapped up on Saturday evening as there were three games that were scheduled for play across the country. Here are the box scores for each of the games as well as a brief recap from each game:

Playoffs - Semi-Finals (Best of 5)

(1 - 0) Sydney Sooners - 10

The Sydney Sooners had the bats working on Saturday evening as they swatted three home runs on route to a 10 - 0 win over the Kentville Wildcats in the opening game of their Best of 5 semi-final series.

After a pair of scoreless frames, the Sooners got things rolling in the 3rd inning as they plated four runs on a trio of home runs. They would add another run in the 4th inning on a 2-out RBI single from Brett MacMullin extending their lead to 5 - 0.

Sydney would put the game out of reach in the 5th inning as they would plate another five runs on three RBI singles as well as a bases loaded walk which ended the game at 10 - 0 after the mercy rule was enforced.

The Sooners had 13 hits on the day led by Corson O'Rourke who was 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two runs and four RBIs. Andrew Brewer was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI while Brett MacMullin was 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, a run and two RBIs

Jake MacMullin was also 2-for-3 with an RBI while Chris Farrow was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two runs and an RBI. Austin Brown and Matt Campbell each had a hit and a run while Cory MacAdam walked and scored a run.

For the defending champion Wildcats, the bats were held fairly silent on the day as John Ansara and league home run champion Evan Ryan each belted a single to account for the two Kentville hits in the game.

Sooners LHP Garrett Nicholson was the beneficiary of all the offense on the day as he went the distance allowing no runs on just two hits walking three and striking out three in picking up the win.

Tyson Slauenwhite took the loss going three innings allowing four runs (all earned) on seven hits walking none and striking out three. Brandon MacKenzie tossed the final 1 2/3 allowing six runs (all earned) on six hits walking five and striking out two.

With the win, Sydney now leads the Best of 5 series 1 - 0 as the teams will prepared for Game 2 today at Susan MacEachern Field. First pitch is slated for 1:00pm AST.

The Charlottetown Islanders now have the Chatham Ironmen on the brink as they won Game 4 at Memorial Park yesterday by a score of 6 - 3 to take a 3 - 1 lead in their Best of 7 league championship series.

The Isles would strike early plating a run in the 1st inning on an RBI ground out from Josh Myers. They would keep the pressure on in the 2nd inning scoring a pair of runs on an error in the infield to grab a 3 - 0 lead.

In the 3rd inning, Chatham would take advantage of a pair of errors plating one run and then would get an RBI single from Nick Leggatt to cut the lead to 3 - 2. Charlottetown would get one back in the bottom of the frame on a Logan Gallant sac fly.

The Islanders would regain their three run lead in the 5th as Sam Worth would draw a bases loaded walk for a 5 - 2 lead, They would extend that lead in the 6th on an RBI single from Gallant. The Ironmen would add one more run in the 7th on a fielders choice for a 6 - 3 final score.

Charlottetown had seven hits on the day and were led by Josh Myers who was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Logan MacDougall was 2-for-4 with a run while Logan Gallant was 1-for-2 with a sac fly and a pair of RBIs. Simon Dubois had a hit and a run while Sam Worth had a walk and an RBI.

For the Ironmen, they had nine hits and were led by Nick Leggatt who was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Jeff Watkin was also 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored while Kevin Landry was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Kris Keating (2B) and Zach Gosse each had a hit and a run while Charlie Malson and Mike McKay each had a hit.

On the mound, Ethan Smith grabbed the win going 6 2/3 innings allowing three runs (one earned) scattering nine hits walking three and striking out five for the Isles. Tanner MacLean recorded the final out of the 7th inning to grab the save.

For Chatham, it was veteran RHP Jamie Walls who drew the starting assignment and the loss as he went 4 2/3 innings allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits walking five and striking out five. Yan Rail tossed the final 1 1/3 innings allowing a run (earned) on two hits walking one and striking out two

The Ironmen will now try and keep their season alive as they will host the Charlottetown club today at Ironmen Field for Game 5. First pitch for today's game is slated for 4:00pm AST

The Cactus de Victoriaville are one win away from advancing to their 4th straight LBMQ Playoff Championship Final as they defeated the Big Bill de Coaticook 6 - 5 yesterday in Victoriaville.

The Cactus would open the scoring in this game with a run in the bottom on the 1st inning. The Big Bill would answer back in the 2nd inning with a pair of runs and follow that with another run in the 3rd inning for a 3 - 1 lead.

Victoriaville would score a pair of runs in the home half of the 3rd inning to tie the game 3 - 3. The teams would trade 2-run innings in the 4th frame to make the score 5 - 5. The Cactus would go ahead for good scoring a run in the 6th inning for a 6 - 5 final score.

The Cactus had a 13-hit attack at the plate lead by Mathieu Sirois who was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Josue Peley was also 3-for-4 with a pair of runs and an RBI while John Loschiavo was 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Shoma Asanari was 2-for-4 with two runs while Raphael John Leblanc (2B), Samuel Fortier and Pier-Olivier Dostaler each had a hit.

For Coaticook, they had eight hits on the day and were led by Kyle Hazel who was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Simon-Pierre Soumis was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI while Xavier Langlois was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Francis Lefebvre (2B) and Julien Castagnier-Charlebois each had a hit and a run scored while William Dechenes had an RBI.

On the mound, Yuki Narita got the start for Victoriaville and went four innings allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits walking two and striking out two in getting a no decision. Josue Peley would get the win going the final three innings allowing no runs on just one hit with a strikeout.

For the Big Bill, it was Oscar Rodriguez who got the start and went 3 2/3 innings allowing five runs (all earned) on 10 hits walking two and striking out one getting a no decision as well. Mathieu Tremblay would take the loss going 2 1/3 innings allowing a run (earned) on three hits with a strikeout.

The Big Bill will look to extend their season today as Game 5 makes it way back to Stade Julien Morin in Coaticook. First pitch is slated for 4:00pm
