Congrats and thank you to @cdncomics for putting on such a wonderful Symposium! Learned a lot. It was wonderful to hear comic scholars, librarians, archivists and creators in dialogue with one another! #CDNComics80
Question about why we tend to focus on dark narratives in Cdn comics? Ty: teaching comics lends itself to serious stories but also framing of the Symposium drew that interest
Discussion about how we are making canon of Cdn comics and what we are leaving out b/c tend to teach/study graphic narratives, serious topics, harder to teach "lighter" material, strips, non-narrative comics
Ty: Cdn comics will be increasingly influenced by globalization, new media (eg YouTube trailers). At same time Cdn comics has to acknowledge colonial history, also been a space where artists & others have been able to be critical and creative
#CDNComics80 CHEDULE CHANGE: There will be a 15 min break between Roundtable 4, “The Future of Canadian Comics,” that ends at 5:30 EST and the final keynote & closing comments by Dr. Eleanor Ty that will run from 5:45-6:15. Apologies for any convenience.
Not all autobio comics are necessarily about trauma! Appreciation for @SandraDumais1 depicting everyday experiences within larger context of the pandemic
