Notice what's missing from the White House's own statement here. Not a single specific allegation against any of the three commissioners fired. Just language about wanting people "totally aligned" with the administration's priorities on elections.

Thomas Hicks, Benjamin Hovland, and Christy McCormick were all unanimously confirmed by the Senate. Unanimous. Not a partisan rubber stamp, actual bipartisan agreement that these three were qualified to do this specific job. That consensus didn't protect them.

Mark Warner is right to call this something that should concern everyone regardless of party, but the deeper issue is procedural, not partisan. Congress wrote the two and two structure into the Help America Vote Act precisely so no single administration could hollow out election certification on its own authority. That structure just failed on contact with a Supreme Court ruling and an email from personnel.
