@Tesco Thanks for your reply Darren. A clear case of “computer says no”. What a shame Tesco doesn’t feel able to empower pickers to make common sense decisions. I now have to drive to a shop to get 50g of butter!! Defeats the object of having shopping delivered.

I’m colour blind, struggle to tell red from green from brown etc. I was in hospital last week having some treatment as I was unable to spot blood in my 💩 which had arisen some time ago. It’s not always as chucklesome as bad shirt and tie combos. It is however a sign of being confident that your partner loves you when you (eventually) pluck up courage to ask them the question “Would you mind checking out my poo colour”. Wasn’t included in the wedding vows from what I recall.

Charlotte, my daughter, passed from a brain tumour five days after her 19th birthday. She was diagnosed in July 2013 with a grade three anaplastic astrocytoma. She endured gruelling radio and chemotherapy. In July 2015, the tumour mutated to a deadly grade four glioblastoma, for which there is no cure. Charlotte, like so many others, never stood a chance with the type of cancer she had. I'm raising awareness and funding in her name so she never becomes 'just another statistic'.

I now have cancer myself. However, my prognosis is a lot better than Charlotte's. Here's a timeline of recent events:

9.4.24: I was called for a routine mammogram.
13.4.24: I received a recall letter indicating something unusual.
18.4.24: Another mammogram, an ultrasound and a biopsy - the growth is suspicious but very small and considered manageable. No spread to the lymph nodes.
1.5.24 Biopsy results: 14mm carcinoma ER (Oestrogen Receptive).
11.6.24: I had my pre-op assessment.
14.6.24: I had a lumpectomy with lymph node biopsy.
12.7.24: I received the results of the lumpectomy: a 13mm carcinoma with no spread to the lymph nodes was excised.
5.8.24: I went to the Royal Marsden (where Charlotte received all her radiotherapy) to have a CT scan and mapping.
9.8.24: Exactly four months after the first routine mammogram took place, I am told I must take medication for the next five years to lower my oestrogen levels. Oestrogen stimulates some breast cancers to grow.

At the end of the month, I will receive five days of radiotherapy.

I was fortunate that my cancer was caught early. If you are called for a mammogram, then please go. These are provided free by the NHS from ages 50 - 71. You will be called every three years. I won't be raising funds for this cancer as, fortunately, it is incredibly well funded. I will. however, raise awareness of the importance of attending mammogram appointments.

I have lost my daughter to cancer but I still have my son. I owe it to him to be here for as long as possible. I know both of my children would never have forgiven me for not taking up something that's free. Please RT with thanks
