NATURE CLEAN UP
Objective: Clean up nature near mineral WA.
Due to the amount of trash i have been finding lately, I am calling up a work party to go clean some of my favorite spots out in the hills. Hopefully this will kick start many more, as there is multiple places i would love to clean up. Yes i know our tax dollars “should” be fixing this. But it’s not. So i am doing it myself, and you are welcome to join me. If no one shows, i am still going because i want my nature clean. 🫡

Crater Lake is awesome .. I wish I knew this shit before I went!
I always thought Crater Lake was basically a beautiful blue lake sitting inside an old volcano...but what is hiding underneath it is insane.
Nearly 2,000 feet below the surface is an entire buried volcanic world with submerged cones, old lava fields, collapsed walls and hydrothermal vents still releasing heat. One hidden cone rises roughly 1,400 feet from the lake floor and still never reaches the surface.
Even Wizard Island is weird because only about two percent of the volcano is visible above the water. The rest drops all the way down into the flooded remains of Mount Mazama, which collapsed after one of the largest eruptions North America has seen in the last 10,000 years.
Scientists found thick yellow gold bacterial mats surviving in total darkness by feeding on chemicals rising through the lake floor, with worms and tiny crustaceans living around them.
There are places where the water inside those mats is far warmer than the freezing lake around them, proving heat is still moving up from below. Mount Mazama is dormant, not extinct, and the next eruption would most likely happen beneath the lake where the last one did.
