A large convoy transporting a refurbished high-voltage power transformer intended for NamPower's Gerus Substation near Otjiwarongo has arrived at Kapps Farm, to the east of Windhoek.
The 100-metre-long combination, made up of multiple trucks, is scheduled to resume its journey tomorrow at around 09h00.
The convoy will travel along the Hage Geingob Freeway heading towards Windhoek before merging onto the Nelson Mandela Highway and continuing on to the Van Eck Power Station.
The transformer will remain stationed there over the weekend before continuing north to the Gerus Substation on Monday.
The cargo came from Eskom Rotek Industries in South Africa, where the transformer was repaired and upgraded.
The equipment was taken to South Africa in 2019 to be repaired and is now back in Namibia seven years later.
The convoy travels at about 25 kilometres per hour and covers around 80 kilometres each day due to its heaviness.
The public is invited to join the convoy alongside the road.
