Russia demonstrates every day that it thrives on war and destruction. Peace is not its leader's goal. That being the case, Ukraine and its partners need to exert intense pressure on Russia so that its war machine is decimated. For humanity's sake it must be done and it will be done. Obviously, the Russians are not preparing to stop their war, at least for now. Putin always finds some lame excuse – not to meet, not to hold a trilateral, not to talk, not to end it, not to stop the killing… It has been the same with him for years – and all our partners feel it. He is looking for excuses to keep waging the war. It always sounds the same – and our recent meeting with the U.S. President showed that.

America sees the situation the same way. And Russia must develop a desire to spend money not on death, but on something else – they must develop a desire to end this war. We are working on this together – with America, with Europe, with Canada, with Japan, and with many others around the world who are helping Ukraine.

In the coming days and throughout October, there will be a lot of diplomatic activity to change the situation. But beyond that, the Lindsey Graham Act, other mechanisms of pressure – all of this needs to work even harder.

In an interview with Ukrinform, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stressed that Russia has shown no readiness to move towards peace.

He called for significantly stronger international pressure to compel Moscow to end its war against Ukraine.

He also highlighted the need for additional resources for Ukraine’s defence, the importance of making use of frozen Russian assets, and the need for Europe to respond collectively to Russia’s growing destabilising activities.

Every day, we respond to the aggressor for its terror against our people and our country. There are new results from our warriors’ long-range responses. Last night, the Ilsky Oil Refinery in the Krasnodar region was hit. Our long-range capabilities were also effective in the Rostov region: a plant supplying the occupiers with components for missiles and artillery, as well as a Pantsir-S2 system, was struck. Our sanctions were also applied to logistics facilities supporting this war. There were also results in the Black Sea.

I thank the warriors of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Defense Forces of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Navy for their precision. I’m grateful to everyone who responds to Russia’s strikes on our people and takes this war back to where it came from.

This is Howard Buffett, Warren Buffett’s middle son. He is 71 years old. He dropped out of college three times. He drinks Dr Pepper and like his father, looks for a McDonald’s wherever he travels.

Since the beginning of the war, his foundation has become the largest private donor to Ukraine: $1.4 billion. Over four years, he has personally visited Ukraine 27 times.

In April 2022, he saw burned-out agricultural machinery all over Ukraine and called the president of John Deere:

“How many combines are available in Europe?”

“Fifteen. All of them were supposed to go to Russia.”

“I’ll take them all. Ship them to Ukraine.”

Then came all the available New Holland equipment in Europe. Altogether, more than 100 tractors and combines have been provided to Ukrainian farmers. Free.

He tested de-mining equipment on his farm in Illinois, detonating explosives beneath rollers. When someone asked if blowing up his own tractors to find a solution was worth it, Buffett replied:

“Stop counting my tractors. If necessary, I’ll blow up a thousand of them.”

When he heard about the "Superhumans" project, the medical program to provide arms and legs for soldiers who have lost theirs, they asked if he'd be willing to kickstart the program with $1 million. Buffett asked how much was needed to build the entire center.

“$14 million" was the answer.

He replied: “Okay. Build it.”

Today, his support for Superhumans has reached $77 million, and the center has treated almost 2,000 wounded soldiers and civilians who have lost limbs due to the war.

But his largest area of spending is neither agricultural machinery nor prosthetics.

It is food: 642 million meals.

He has built, stocked and staffed mobile kitchens that go into areas where civilians, often very elderly, whose homes have been destroyed by Russian bombing.

Real help from a person who has no personal motivation to profit from Ukraine. He simply chooses to help.

A “Save Oleshky” banner was spotted at the Ukraine-Hungary match

People are starving in occupied Oleshky in the Kherson region: food and medicine have not been brought into the city since May.

According to various estimates, between 1,500 and 2,000 people remain in Oleshky, including dozens of children.

Russia is de facto carrying out a new Holodomor in the 21st century. The humanitarian crisis is only getting worse with each passing day.

Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O’Flaherty called for a local ceasefire, humanitarian access, and the safe evacuation of residents.

Under international humanitarian law, Russia, as the occupying power, is obliged to provide the population with food and medicine.

Many Ukrainian civilians spend years in Russian captivity – with no explanation for their imprisonment.

Serhii Akhmetov, a civilian hostage from the Ukrainian city of Bucha, recalls that captors often claimed he was merely a "witness", yet he was treated with the same brutality as prisoners.

Thousands of unlawfully detained civilians are trapped in this legal vacuum without access to lawyers or international observers, or even the ability to communicate with their relatives.

We are responding to Russia’s brutal strikes against life. Last night, thanks to our long-range sanctions, two oil refineries were hit – in Perm and Novoshakhtinsk. There were also hits on the Iskra Plant defense enterprise in Ulyanovsk, and the occupiers now have two fewer radar stations in the Rostov region.
