🇸🇴🚨 BREAKING: FIFA’s big promises just collapsed for Africa again.

Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan — CAF Men’s Referee of the Year 2025, selected as one of 52 officials for the 2026 World Cup, set to be the first Somali ever at the tournament — was denied entry into the United States at Miami Airport on June 6.

Despite holding a valid visa and diplomatic passport. Turned away over vague “vetting concerns.” FIFA confirmed he’s out. No training. No matches.

Back in 2025, Gianni Infantino stood in Nairobi and declared: “Everyone will be welcome in Canada, Mexico and the United States for the FIFA World Cup.”

Empty words.

This isn’t an isolated mistake. It’s the pattern: Western hosts preach “global football” while enforcing selective borders that hit the Global South hardest. African officials, journalists, and fans face extra hurdles. Meanwhile, the same system rolls out the red carpet for others.

Somalia remains on the US travel restriction list — security pretexts that conveniently block talent from certain nations. FIFA knew the risks but sold the dream anyway. Now they shrug: “Not our problem.”

Same organization that lectures everyone on inclusion and human rights.

Africa produces world-class referees like Artan, yet gets blocked at the gate while the tournament profits off African talent and passion.

This is modern imperialism dressed as sports governance.

Albanians just showed the world how it's done.

The government was selling off prime coastal land and protected islands to Jared Kushner and linked investors for a massive luxury resort turning public beaches and nature reserves into private playgrounds for the ultra-rich. The people said: HELL NO. Thousands poured into the streets under “Albania Is Not For Sale.” Protests turned fiery. They stormed government buildings and burnt down the Prime Minister’s house. This isn’t just about a deal. It’s about sovereignty. It’s about refusing to let your country be auctioned off to foreign billionaires while locals lose access to their own coastline. When elites sell the nation’s future for kickbacks and luxury resorts, the people have every right to push back hard. Respect to the Albanians for refusing to be colonized by cash. Other countries should be taking notes.

-I last voted in Parliament on 18 March, so I haven’t done my job for ten weeks.
-I’ve never held any face-to-face constituency surgeries, despite apparently having £5 million to spend on security.
-I refuse to do interviews or face press scrutiny of any sort.
-when I was in the European Parliament I had the 4th worst attendance record out of 748 MEPs.
-although I did manage to turn up to vote AGAINST plans to tackle Russian misinformation.
