Australia leads the world in many areas, sadly this includes animal extinction rates. #MurdochUniversity researchers are working to change this 🙌 On #ThreatenedSpeciesDay2022 we pay tribute our wildlife heroes 🐨🐬🐢🦋 https://t.co/elnCCr6gqH
(3) Hugs was first recorded as a calf in 2011 when we conducted our first fieldwork season in the adjacent waters. She first visited the Swan Canning Riverpark with her mum 'Cuddles' in 2013, who is also a regular visitor generally accompanied by two of our oldest resident males.
(2) Nine of our resident dolphins were recently seen in the Fremantle Inner Harbour along with 'Hugs', a resident dolphin from adjacent waters, although well known to spend time in the harbour. What we didn't know until now is that Hugs is a female and a first-time mum 🐬🐬
Sixteen of our resident dolphins (out of 21) were observed on our first winter survey, including Akuna who lost her three-month-old calf just last month from fishing line and crab pot rope entanglements.

Two females residing in the waters outside #fremantlefishingboatharbour#Cockburn#Fremantle were seen in the estuary #perth accompanied by some of the male residents, an important observation to add in our understanding of the dynamic of our resident dolphin community.
