It’s also one of my favorite examples of what I call the “Theory Placeholder.”

This is a screenwriting device for mysteries where the audience always has just enough information to think they know what’s going on.

They’re never confused; they may even think they're half a step ahead of the protagonist.

But they’re wrong every time until the end.

The joy is that they’re never lied to; they just get more information as they go, with each theory replaced by a new one.

It’s a robbery gone wrong.
It’s about prostitutes cut up to look like movie stars.
It’s about blackmail.
It’s about the mob.
It’s about corrupt cops.
It’s about city council.
It's about cops replacing the mob.

Throw in the characters, the dialogue, the music, the look…

I love this movie. An indisputable classic.

As said you can’t speak for every area up and down the country so if someone, such as Carrie says she was banned i’m not sure the burden of proof is on her. Love to the family.

Based on your comments here are you happy to agree perhaps people had different experiences to you and that there’s a chance that where they lived and grew up they were not given the same opportunities to play football as others, ergo banned?

I too would be upset if my freedom to learn a language or play a sport was not allowed or prohibited or blocked or any other synonym for banned by either my school or local/national associations. After that I would imagine it was likely still very difficult to find somewhere to play and for the game to recover from a blanket ban. Was still an issue in the 90’s
