Delroy Lindo’s been making films better for five decades & I’ll be damned if I don’t use every last ounce of effort I have to see that Lindo is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Sinners. @TheAcademy he should’ve been nominated long before this. Please give the man his due.

17-year-old Jackie Mitchell applying makeup before she struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig on April 2nd, 1931.
Babe Ruth was famously furious after being struck out, yelling at the umpire and later declaring in interviews that women were “too delicate” for baseball. His reaction, combined with the public attention Jackie Mitchell received, prompted Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis to ban women from playing in professional leagues shortly afterward—a rule that stood for decades.
Lou Gehrig, by contrast, reportedly took it in stride, showing a more composed and sportsmanlike attitude. Despite the official ban, Jackie didn’t let it stop her: she continued to play professionally in barnstorming teams and other leagues that allowed co-ed participation, becoming a pioneering figure for women in baseball.
