After four years of German occupation, French resistance fighters launched a massive uprising to reclaim their capital.
Rare colorized footage captures the intense urban combat as the Forces Françaises de l'Intérieur (FFI) battle German troops in the streets of Paris. By August 24, General Leclerc's French 2nd Armored Division had entered the city with M4 Sherman tanks and other armored vehicles. The following day, on August 25, 1944, the German garrison surrendered, helping secure the liberation of Paris and bringing four years of occupation to an end.
