If you’re a “senior Democrat” that feels this way, you should absolutely retire and make space for true leadership that refuses to resign themselves to fascism.
This kind of leadership is functionally useless to the American people. Retire.
The largest public university system in the U.S., @calstate is strong and successful because of their hardworking faculty and staff. I stand with @CFA_United and @IBTlocal2010 and urge CSU to bargain in good faith to deliver higher base salaries and better conditions. #CFAProud
A Democrat was in the White House when my family was sent to the internment camps in 1941. It was an egregious violation of our human and civil rights.
It would have been understandable if people like me said they’d never vote for a Democrat again, given what had been done to us.
But being a liberal, being a progressive, means being able to look past my own grievances and concerns and think of the greater good. It means working from within the Democratic party to make it better, even when it has betrayed its values.
I went on to campaign for Adlai Stevenson when I became an adult. I marched for civil rights and had the honor of meeting Dr. Martin Luther King. I fought for redress for my community and have spent my life ensuring that America understood that we could not betray our Constitution in such a way ever again.
Bill Clinton broke my heart when he signed DOMA into law. It was a slap in the face to the LGBTQ community. And I knew that we still had much work to do. But I voted for him again in 1996 despite my misgivings, because the alternative was far worse. And my obligation as a citizen was to help choose the best leader for it, not to check out by not voting out of anger or protest.
There is no leader who will make the decision you want her or him to make 100 percent of the time. Your vote is a tool of hope for a better world. Use it wisely, for it is precious. Use it for others, for they are in need of your support, too.
@evahagberg My daughter’s last name is hyphenated, we haven’t had a problem traveling internationally. Side note—we’ve been in Mexico for the past year, and it’s great being somewhere where multiple last names are the norm, not an exception
Amanda Seyfried shares her thoughts on a potential WGA strike: “Everything changed with streaming, and everyone should be compensated for their work. It’s f-cking easy.”
@ENBrown This reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend a few years ago at her baby shower. She was pregnant with twins, and I was like “oh you are in for so much fun!”—She was taken aback—apparently I was the first person to propose that it might be enjoyable?
Sam Quinones writes that the flow of fentanyl could be stopped by Mexico & the US with closer cooperation, including by ending the US’s illegal arming of drug cartels that have killed countless Mexicans.

@FareedZakaria 3-a. INE, the electoral agency being reformed, was built by Mexico's past kleptocrats, who valued bloated bureaucracies.
It has 17k employees even in non-electoral years, including the best paid govt officials (earning more than twice as much as the president himself).
