Funny how the same people who wanted to defund the CBC are suddenly upset that a Canadian institution is disappearing.
Hockey Night in Canada on free TV was part of growing up in this country.
Now it's another subscription.
Progress, apparently.
What a joke!
The CBC's loss of hockey broadcast rights in Canada is a national disgrace. It's a blow to national, and personal, connections at the worst possible time.

NEW: we’re learning more about the cost of “Protect Ontario” ads to taxpayers.
FOI records show the cost for just one ministry to produce & run them last year was nearly $10 million.
The total the Ford government has spent across all ministries is expected to be much higher.
The @OntarioNDP is calling on Doug Ford and Mark Carney to release the Toronto Port Authority's secret Billy Bishop Airport plan.
The public deserves to know exactly what they're being "consulted" about.

Hockey Night in Canada on CBC is the eighth longest running TV show in THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD at 72 seasons.
Add in radio, and it's been a Saturday night fixture for families on CBC for 90 years.
There has never been a Canadian cultural institution like it, and there never will be again.

The end of Hockey Night in Canada is more than just the end of a television show.
Hockey Night in Canada was something uniquely Canadian.
Now it is gone.
A piece of our cultural tapestry now in the dustbin of history.
You don't know what you got until its gone.

My @TorontoStar column: To call the island airport expansion idea "half-baked" is an insult to baked goods. There are scant details and few credible projections.
Toronto is in an absurd situation — debating a notion instead of a plan. That won't fly.

The Toronto Port Authority has shared its early plans for the $5 billion expansion of Billy Bishop airport with provincial & federal officials, but is withholding this information from Mayor Olivia Chow and the public https://t.co/6Tz3OSaOHs #onpoli#cdnpoli#TOpoli
The idea Billy Bishop should become a regional hub is a complete joke.
Security literally only handles a single person at a time.
I challenge the government to try and show a business case.
As @chrisglover says nobody will loan $5B to a business making $17M.
My latest. This story is based on FOI documents released before the Ford government changed the law. Under the new rules, the province will now be able to keep records like this secret.
This is correct
@juliedabrusin is my MP, and up to the airport debacle her office has been GREAT. They have gone completely silent on the airport matter, notwithstanding both her Cabinet portfolio and her riding.
It is extremely disappointing. The gaslighting by Toronto’s liberal MPs on this matter has been something to behold. Please don’t take our support for granted
Exactly. Does the city HAVE to constantly become more hostile, more bleak for young people and families? People live here. Can’t it get, you know, nicer? #topoli#onpoli
We wrote about the "spa" over three years ago - in April 2023.
We know a lot more now than we did back then. Now, for example, we know the chair of Therme is also prez of Palantir Canada. 😵💫
But even back then, the parking plans gave it away - it's not a bloody spa.
A single NDP MP from Edmonton is a louder voice for Toronto residents than 23 mute Liberal MPs
Carney destroying our waterfront would be a historic mistake for this city and the Liberal Party
