I would certainly hire the one with 5 production projects. If they can build production projects, they are already coding in real-world environments.

In contrast, solving 700 LeetCode problems doesn't mean that you can build a real-world project. You still cannot handle system design, version control, and UIs with just cracking LeetCode questions, no matter how many.

IMHO, none of them will win fundamentally. If I have to say, I would say that Developers using AI will have a slight advantage.

Why?

The construction of AI is an endless money draining machines.

Companies have to lay off employees to save cash flow for AI development.

Employees will not have enough money to buy companies' products, so developer selling AI will lose their jobs or have neither income nor commissions.

Due to the lack of cash inflow and the possible abandonment of the AI project, developers building AI will lose their jobs.

And when companies building AI fail, developers using AI can no longer use AI. But at least they can adapt their lives back without AI, which is why they have only a slight advantage.
