A MIT professor gave a 1-hour lecture in 2019 that has 18 million views.
He died 5 months after recording it.
It was his final gift to the world.
Patrick Winston taught at MIT for 50 years.
The smartest engineers on earth sat in his classroom.
And he spent his last lecture teaching them the one skill their degrees never covered.
How to speak.
15 lessons that will change how you communicate forever:
Never open with a joke. Your audience is not ready to laugh yet. Open with a promise of what they will know by the end.
Your ideas are like your children. You are too close to them. What is obvious to you is invisible to everyone else. Explain the obvious.
The 5-minute rule: the first 5 minutes of any talk determine whether people will listen for the next 55. Spend more time on your opening than anything else.
Repeat your most important idea 3 times in 3 different ways. Once is never enough.
Build a fence around your idea. Tell people what it is NOT before you tell them what it IS.
Verbal punctuation. Pause. Let the idea land before moving to the next one.
Ask questions nobody will answer. Then wait 7 seconds. The silence is not awkward. It is processing.
Never read your slides. Your audience can read. They cannot listen and read simultaneously.
Use the board not the slides. Writing forces you to slow down. Slowing down forces clarity.
Inspire before you inform. Nobody learns from someone they are not inspired by.
End with a contribution not a summary. Tell them what you gave them. Not what you said.
Never say thank you at the end. It is weak. End with something that lands.
Stories make ideas stick. Data makes ideas understood. You need both. In that order.
The quality of your communication determines the quality of your ideas in the eyes of the world. Not the ideas themselves.
Practice is not preparation. Practice IS the skill.
Patrick Winston understood something most people spend their entire careers missing.
Your ideas are only as powerful as your ability to transfer them into someone else's mind.
You can be the smartest person in the room and be completely invisible.
Or you can master communication and make average ideas feel like breakthroughs.
He chose to spend his last lecture teaching this.
Watch it tonight.

“There is no greater misfortune than underestimating your enemy." Chapter 69 of the Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu.
Why are the Iranian Cluster Missiles a surprise? Why was their counter-attack on U.S. military bases in the region a surprise?
Iran had 20+ years to prepare.
Top U.S. Generals and others warned President Trump, Vance, and Hegseth not to escalate — Arrogance, pride and self-serving motives caused them not to listen to wise counsel.
Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson says
"Khamenei was the one guy in Iran that blocked for 36 years Iran's ability to develop a Nuclear Weapon, the one man who stood in the way & said,we will not build a nuclear weapon.
That's the guy the United States killed..What the hell man
QUICK RECAP for everyone who doesn't understand what is happening with Iran:
- Israel has openly claimed their desire to create a failed state in Iran so they could seize power over the region to expand Israel's territory
- CIA has said as recent as last year that Iran didnt have the capability to harm US citizens even if they wanted to and wouldnt for at LEAST 10 years as Barack had already secured a deal during his term to keep their nuclear program under control.
- US is admitting there is no evidence Iran wanted to attack us
- Saudi allies are on the news saying Trump has betrayed all of our Middle Eastern allies (the Gulf states) by decimating their tourism industry now and abandoning them as Iran blows up oil and gas sites everywhere in the region.
- Trump openly admitted that he wanted regime change in Iran yesterday. He has also admitted to major news sources that everyone who he wanted to take over has now been killed.
- the Strait of Hormuz is closed, which means gas and energy is about to SKYROCKET. Oil prices are trading up +10% as we speak and Financial Times is reporting gas prices will go up 50% in the coming days here.
- 150 little girls are dead because of the U.S. bombing their school.
- Americans have been abandoned in the region as they are calling into news stations saying that their neighbors from Europe are being escorted out by their governments sending planes to get them.
- None of Trump's people will speak out as news sources say they are completely panicked and have no idea what to do.
It's as chaotic as it seems.
“Israel’s Channel 14 is now reporting that Netanyahu intends to implement the Dahiya Doctrine in Tehran: destruction of civilian infrastructure as a means of forcing Iranians to turn on the regime.”
In a startling press conference, Marco Rubio just admitted that the U.S. embarked upon this illegal war against Iran because their actions were dictated by Israel who were going to attack Iran unilaterally regardless of U.S. participation.
He said the U.S. did not want to be in a position where Israel attacked, and the Iranians then hit US targets in retaliation for something that wasn’t them. The clear suggestion here is that Netanyahu had a bull ring through Trump’s nose and led him, and by default the U.S. into a Middle East war with a potential to escape the lab and set the region on fire.
Can someone explain to me like I’m a child why the Prime Minister of Israel is leading US foreign policy at the exclusion of Congressional approval, imposing a conflict on the American people?
Someone needs to explain to the American people who the real superpower is, just as Bill Clinton asked of Netanyahu back in the day. Pause to think about that for a moment. America did NOT have the ability to stop Israel from attacking an enemy it has wanted to destroy for decades, resulting in dragging America into an illegal fight?
Netanyahu has played Trump like a Stradivarius for the sole purpose of eliminating the Iranian threat. I find that so incredibly unbelievable I have no idea what to think.
Had Rubio said the intention was to choke of oil supplies to China to consolidate the choking of supply from Venezuela, I could have bought that, but the story that they had no choice but to follow Netanyahu blows my mind.
Whatever the reason, the potential gates to insurgent hell have now been thrown wide open with all the associated risks that now presents to the West. It’s beyond stupid and reckless.
The Schizophrenic justification for the strike changes depending on who is telling the story, but now the real challenge starts as Iran start to use less modern missiles to deplete interceptor missile stocks which are depleting by the hour.
Once these stocks are gone, targets become sitting ducks. That’s why the US and Israel are desperately going after missile launchers. I have to tell you that I believe this has not been thought through.
As a result, of the regime’s reckless behavior, the American people will wake up less safe as each day passes. It is an act of gross incompetence that has in my view compromised US National Security and that’s on Trump.
@politicsusa46 Incidentally part of this reminded me; 2011, TED talks, Deb Roy @dkroy casually installs 40 cameras at home, ends the presentation with "We can trace a path from every piece of content being mentioned (in the WWW), to actual persons in our database".

While all eyes are on Iran, the regime and big tech took another important but quiet step while you were looking the other way to deliver the ultimate surveillance state.
I’ll let Drey explain and can I suggest you share this with as many people as you can because it’s VERY IMPORTANT.
The same people that are almost certain to wrap up control of everything you watch are now watching YOU.
