The arena was empty. It was Friday, September 21, 2007—the 21st and final night of *21 Nights in London*. Prince had performed in white, shouted "Haven’t you got a train to catch?", and yet kept going. A few hours later, in the same complex, the doors to the indigO2 opened at 11:30 PM. At 1:35 AM—technically Saturday, September 22—the final aftershow began. Capacity: approximately 2,350. Ticket: an extra £25. No guarantees. That night, however, a guarantee wasn't needed.

That summer, the indigO2 had been rebranded as "3121." No Symbol-shaped stage, no crowd of twenty thousand, no glow sticks from the arena. It was a split-level club where the audience was close to the stage, and phones were banned. The New Power Generation was ready to go: Cora Coleman-Dunham on drums, Joshua Dunham on bass, Morris Hayes and Renato Neto on keys, Maceo Parker, Greg Boyer, Mike Phillips, and Lee Hogans on horns, Shelby J. and Marva King on vocals, and The Twinz in motion. Guests: Amy Winehouse and Beverley Knight.

The opening: two voices, one song.
Amy Winehouse sang one of her own songs. Prince played guitar, tweaking the arrangements slightly and making room for solos, but he let the moment belong to her. Afterward, he said, "I got tears—I’m gonna have to get my shades on." The song didn't make it onto the official album *Indigo Nights*—presumably due to rights issues—but it remains the defining image of that night: two artists taking each other's work seriously, at an hour when the rest of London was asleep.
