❗️PSA❗️ If you see a service dog in public....IGNORE IT!! Don’t stare & gawk at it. Don’t talk about “omg look at the cute doggie” (we can hear you). Don’t purposely walk close & stick your hand out (I can see you). You’ve seen a dog before, act like it. Let my dog work.
Great round table discussion with @EbpCentral and @GPPartner ! Nutrition talks are always important. Athletes: eat at least 4x before practice/games. Eat nutrient dense foods. Eating something is better than nothing! #ESSAthleticTraining
Lightning/rain delays suck. But what doesn’t suck is having athletes from every team on campus stop by/hang out in the ATR during the delay. Knowing my athletes are comfortable in my room & enjoy being there will always reassure me that I must be doing something right
@kricem_ @SamTheATC Exactly what I went through last year. So bizarre! 99% sure he had a partial tear prior & during our scrimmage it tore completely
@SamTheATC Last year!! Kid was so strong & jacked, myself + orthos could barely get anterior translation with special tests. MRI confirmed complete tear of ACL. Didn’t complain of much pain, just feeling weak & unstable. MOI was also unknown as “it’s been getting worse for a while” 🤷🏼♀️
@EdWozATC@K_S_Institute I’ve had to postpone JV/Fr football games due to heat. Lower levels typically start at 6 instead of 7. I’ve typically modified warmups (with coaches & refs in consensus) so we can get as close to start time as possible. I’m in Phoenix so it’s 🔥
@ShelleyMarie817 All of the same, but a little more, depending on their skill sign-offs. Turf tape on arms is the new hot thing so I’ve shown them that too. Most are able to help with covering wounds, nosebleeds, ice bags, etc. It all depends on their skill set, proficiency & confidence.
On todays episode of “I don’t get paid enough to make this crap up”
Me: “you have to wait inside, lightning is less than a mile away”
Ath: “impossible, it doesn’t lightning during the day. Only at night” (all 10 of them agree)
*proceeds with a basic life lesson about weather*
@AnonymousAT2 Gen med & how we, as ATs can assist our athletes with the ATF. Yes, we refer most things out, but what real life help can we provide. I feel like so many CEUs cover information for what happens outside of our ATF - I want to grow what I can do from within my walls.
@MarkdATC I added an acknowledgment page that states they’ve read & understand our procedures. I’ll be keeping files for all teams to account for all staff members. I’m looking for something a little more advanced for next year, but this is a great start.
I saw an athlete today who I knew had follow ups with her ortho this summer. When I asked if she had her clearance paperwork, she literally went home & brought it back to me less than an hour later. Not that I’d ever play favoritism… but she just earned herself some points
