@relmz32@uniqueusernanme @jynisback @ShitpostRock My god, the amount of retarded takes people have. An exploration game about discovery and very little emphasis on action, with huge emphasis on finding creative ways of dealing with problems and big emphasis on resource management is somehow considered an action game. Moronic.
@relmz32@uniqueusernanme @jynisback @ShitpostRock It's not an action game. Like 95% of the gameplay doesnt even involve action. How do people play BotW, see how many genres it combines and go "it's an action game", despite the action revolving heavily around resource management and creativity?
@uniqueusernanme@relmz32 @jynisback @ShitpostRock Yeah, but also the discourse around DS also changed. Every ER topic I see is about rolling, every comment that tries to help newcomers - still talks about rolling.
Like, just use a shield and chill. ER to me was mostly very chill, otherwise I wouldn't have finished it.
All I argued is that graphic fidelity can elevate a game, which they continuously refuted, and they went completely bonkers. I even admitted to being wrong with one of my points - but my "dishonesty" made them so angry they had to go on a break.
And they call it "vitriol", lol.
@IAmNor6@J0hnADouglas Replying to your insane last comment:
I literally only said that certain graphical fidelity CAN elevate the game - which you CONTINUOSLY refuted.
You are a fucking moron.
@IAmNor6@J0hnADouglas No, UbiSlop just raises the graphics fidelity, without using it in a smart way to make it elevate the experience. Actually, you bringing up UbiSlop elevates my point, because UbiSlop is such a terrible example.
Graphics also change shit. If they used well. Just like music.
@IAmNor6@J0hnADouglas No, you just not understand what I'm saying. I'm saying that immersion achieved with certain graphics fidelity CAN elevate the experience. And I bring INSIDE as an example - make it look like Limbo and it's no longer as amazing of an experience.
VRChat is a horrible comparison.
@IAmNor6@J0hnADouglas But we're talking about INSIDE, a 2.5 platformer, not VRChat. You cannot just compare apples to oranges.
A 2.5 platformer like INSIDE needed to look like it looks, otherwise it wouldn't reach the level of immersion that it reached.
@IAmNor6@J0hnADouglas Your argument wasn't: "It matters little", it was "It never mattered."
I agree that it matters little. But sometimes it matters a lot.
And it mattered A LOT when jumps were so huge they literally spawned new genres (like the jump to 3D).
@IAmNor6@J0hnADouglas I'm sure INSIDE needed to look amazing to reach its heights. Some games have level of immersion only achievable with certain graphics.
Btw DS didnt even sacrifice gameplay for graphics. It has at least three groundbreaking mechanics and it's actually driven by gameplay.
@IAmNor6@J0hnADouglas Nah, music doesn't matter. Because I say so. Just like you say that graphics don't matter.
Let's ignore that games like INSIDE are carried by it's graphics, no question about it.
Why the cherrypicking? Why bringing up shitty games as examples?
@IAmNor6@J0hnADouglas Ok, no, you're right. The game could look blocky and still function. You're right on that.
But without looking photorealistic, it would only be half the game that it is. No abstraction could compare to feeling like you're actually trekking among nature. It's what defines DS.
@IAmNor6@J0hnADouglas That's just delusion. If graphics don't matter - so should the music. Because music doesn't even affect the gameplay. But... it does affect the mood, right?
So exactly like graphics.
I value games for literally everything. It's a "you" problem if you're cherry picking.
@IAmNor6@J0hnADouglas You think all those rocks don't require computing power to even exist? Those same rocks that directly affect the gameplay?
You didn't play Death Stranding, right?
@IAmNor6@J0hnADouglas Stop acting like no game EVER hugely benefited from amazing graphics. Graphics can elevate the game, just like music. Mewgenics wouldn't be this good if not for the amazing soundtrack.
@IAmNor6@J0hnADouglas But we're arguing if graphics fidelity ever mattered, not if we overvalue graphics (of course we do).
And graphical fidelity clearly matters if a game could not exist at all or rise to it's full potential without certain graphical fidelity.
