1/ No, .cell is its own protocol on Nervos CKB, independent of https://t.co/oatTJODkID. A name you are, a name you get paid at, and a name you sign in with.

2/ Your name is a cell you own: its own web address (https://t.co/ykCWaNVGFq), a profile and picture stored on chain, addresses for #CKB, #Bitcoin, #Ethereum, #Solana or any chain, a primary name for your wallet, and "sign in with .cell".

3/ It can be owned by a #postquantum key (SPHINCS+) while your normal wallet keeps managing it.

4/ Anyone can pay it: CKB from the page, a #Lightning Address ([email protected]), Fiber, or a payment request signed by the name's own key carrying an IBAN, Pix or UPI key. Change the account in the link and the check fails. Sealed requests are encrypted, even from us.

5/ Sub-names for a fifth of the parent's price. A marketplace where a lock holds the name in escrow, not us, and the contract enforces the split. Lapse, and you still have 30 days of grace before anyone else can take it.

6/ Your name lasts as long as CKB does, not as long as we do. Anyone can run a resolver or renew a name, and the app itself is stored on chain. If https://t.co/JriI7lUUtl went dark tomorrow, your name would still be yours and still resolve.

7/ Live on CKB mainnet since 21 Sep. The contracts are public and the mainnet binaries rebuild from them byte for byte. Any app resolves a name with one HTTP call since yeasterday, with proof of the cell it came from.

Live on testnet, incoming to mainnet:

• A faster app. Explore now loads a page at a time instead of reading every name in your browser.

• Your avatar as you type. Pick a name and its mark lights up before you claim it. It's worked out from the name itself, so it's the same everywhere.

• Names held as a deed: a Spore that controls the name. A deed wakes the name's living being, and it works as a piggy bank. Anyone can feed it 73 CKB or more and leave a note. It piles up inside the deed until you empty it, and goes with the deed if you sell it.

Done:

• Open for anyone to check: the contracts, which rebuild byte for byte, the resolver, which is one docker run, and our write-ups.

• CCC 1.23.0 shipped name resolution, our first feature in it. Jan Xie's ckbadger explorer now reads .cell natively. Next on our list: the CKB Explorer.

• a.cell and x.cell are taken. 34 of the 36 one-character names are still free.

Next for the beings: Fiber, for meals under 73 CKB.

And unlike most apps: if we vanished tomorrow, your name would still be yours until it expires. Anyone could renew it, and the app itself is published on CKB, so anyone could rebuild it from a public node.

So, what are .cell names?

Today, getting paid online usually means handing someone a string of letters and numbers you cannot remember. And you cannot easily check a bank account number, or on a blockchain address, something like ckb1qzda0cr08m85hc8jln... is just too much, one typo and the money is gone...

Set it up once and it keeps working, because you hold the only key that moves it, not us. It is yours in a way an account with a company or a bank never is, and it keeps working even if we disappear.

People can pay your name in the money they already use: euros, reais or rupees, or, for anyone who does use crypto currencies, your name also accepts CKB, bitcoin, ether, solana, and instant payments over Lightning or Fiber.

Before any payment goes through, the payer's browser checks it against the blockchain, so a tampered link warns them rather than quietly taking their money.

Your name can even be protected today by a key built to survive computers with quantum technology, dispite the tech still being far into the future.

This is all great, we know, and the best part, you do not have to take our word for any of this: the code behind it is public, anyone can run their own copy of the lookup, and even the app itself lives on a blockchain, where its own page checks it against what is actually running.
