Volunteers who give up their time to help police with delicate search and rescue operations have been thanked by West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner @SimonFosterPCC.

@WarkSAR assist emergency services across the West Midlands as well as Warwickshire, carrying out a vital role in helping find high risk missing people.

This much valued service operates on lowland level, mainly on foot, but also in water or from the air via drones. It attends around 60-80 incidents a year and is made up entirely of volunteers.

While based in Warwickshire, the team carry out a high number of operations in the West Midlands Police area.

In 2023 the group received the ultimate recognition for a voluntary charity, becoming the first lowland rescue team to be awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

PCC Simon Foster said: "It was fascinating and humbling to meet the volunteers and hear about the missions they have carried out.

"They do work across the region and are a vital partner to the police and other emergency services.

"The volunteers give remarkable service and it was a pleasure to meet them and learn about their work first hand."
