I remember him coming out of High School. He went to ECU initially. Truth is he was a different player then opposed to now. Recruiting isn’t a perfect science and a kid’s work ethic and hunger to be great is typically not something a coach who sees him only a few times can evaluate. A kid’s desire to be the best is usually fueled by his circumstances and often times being passed up ignites that fire. @D1Tristen is exactly where God called him to be. No evaluator at that time could see that. Every kid’s journey is different. As evaluators we get some wrong and other times we get them right! That’s the nature of the business! He’s a dude for sure! But his work ethic, hunger to be great and the right program, teammates, situation and coaches developing him is the reason why he is who he is today. Doesn’t happen the same way for him if a high profile D1 takes him out of high school and puts him on the bench. He got to see the court early at ECU, developed his game. The transfer portal is the minor league system for ncaa athletics. Kids who aren’t ready for power 5 athletics can go mid to low major, even D2 or D3 in some cases, develop “on the court” against college level guys and level up to high major D1 if the opportunity presents itself. Every kid’s journey is different. Embrace what’s for you!
