@SixBrownChicks 😳 This is slanderous! There is absolutely nothing toxic about Cancers, unless honesty & loyalty are too dangerous for people to handle. 😠
Pope Leo XIV issued a historic apology for the Holy See’s own role in legitimizing slavery and for its centuries-long failure to condemn the practice, describing the Vatican’s record as “a wound in Christian memory.”
Previous popes have apologized for Christians’ participation in the trans-Atlantic slave trade, in which more than 12 million Africans were transported in chains and enslaved by Europeans.
However, no pope had ever publicly acknowledged, let alone apologized for, the actions of past popes who explicitly granted European rulers the authority to subjugate and enslave non-Christians labeled as “infidels.”
The first US-born pope in history, whose own family background includes both enslaved people and slave owners, delivered the apology on Monday in his inaugural encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas (Magnificent Humanity), which was published the same day.
The comprehensive document focuses on protecting humanity amid growing dependence on artificial intelligence. Leo connected the trans-Atlantic slave trade to new forms of slavery and colonialism driven by the digital revolution, such as the unregulated labor used to extract rare minerals for AI chips.
On this day in 1881, Tennessee started modern segregation movement with Jim Crow railroad car.
It was followed by Florida (1887), Mississippi (1888), Texas (1889), Louisiana (1890), Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas and Georgia (1891), South Carolina (1898), North Carolina (1899)
This is why I have no sympathy for immigrants who voted for Trump...we fuckin' warned y'all.
You come to the U.S. with a clean slate never having to endure pre-Civil Rights bullshit Black ppl had to endure, and Republicans use that to pit one marginalized group against the other
Europe isn't a predator of Africa. It's a parasite. That's different. Predators don't disturb their prey when they are not hungry. They know their survival depends on herbivores surviving. But parasites leech all the time on the host, even when they are killing the host. They can't stop themselves. So the treatment for Africa must be on us, the hosts. We must develop our own knowledge and social medicines to get the parasite off us.
Canadian ICC Judge Kimberly Prost has told Al Jazeera's @stepvaessen that US sanctions have had a ‘crippling effect’ on her life. She’s one of nine officials sanctioned by the US for trying to prosecute American and Israeli nationals.
After racist attacks on social media, Somali Americans are parodying pro-Israel narratives – joking that Minnesota was promised to them “3,000 years ago.”
@atrupar This weird mentioning of HBCUs is ALL about the gifts from Mackenzie Scott. I always knew this admin was seething about it. This is his way of expressing his anger. They can’t come out and say it openly, so he uses this weird “weave” to talk about it.
