"Higher intelligence just makes you better rationalize your preconceptions"
This is probably true to a point, but a certain level of cognitive power makes you separate your emotions from your evaluation of an issue, makes you imagine and appreciate a possible reality beyond...
In 2019, Tobey Maguire won $15.6 million playing poker against billionaire Andy Beal. Beal delayed payment and asked for a discount. Maguire spent $500,000 on a lawyer and collected his full $7.8 million share.
In the video below, private poker organizer Molly Bloom describes what the Spider-Man actor was like at her table. She recalls him saying: “It’s not really about money. It’s more about crushing souls.”
Bloom remembers Maguire assuring an opponent during one hand: "Listen, I have the top hand. I swear on my mother's life". The man agonized, eventually folded, and Maguire revealed the bluff.
According to Bloom, he made a different demand of her: to receive a tip, she had to climb onto the table and bark like a seal.
Bloom refused. She says the standoff lasted 35 minutes: the game stopped while everyone at the table watched.
A few weeks later, Bloom says, Maguire arranged for one of the wealthy players to host the games at his house. The other players followed, leaving her without the game she had been running.
Then Maguire called her: “You’re done. You’re over.”
Lawyer Tom Goldstein helped Maguire collect the money from Beal. In January 2026, the actor described the arrangement in court, where Goldstein himself was facing tax charges.
Beal had lost money to Maguire and owed him payment. Bloom refused to be humiliated and lost the game she organized.
Was winning the money enough for Maguire, or did he need the people at the table to feel defeated?
Short form video content is unironically a national security threat. More than just women being women on it, in a rare moment I browsed reels long enough for it to start picking up on my behavior.
It amounts to if you like ONE video, it instantly spams you with people doing the same joke, the same way. Instantly that’s all you see, and it gets boring really fast.
Millions of people, on the other hand, indulge in this. They laugh just as hard the 6Mth time seeing the same stupid joke as they did the first time. They get sucked into this and spend several hours a day on it. Worse than I previously thought
Trump: “It’s amazing…I could say the stupidest things and you’d clap.”
<audience starts clapping>
I love this. He’s consistently being shocked by how stupid his supporters are.
You know what's a great intelligence tell?
When someone confuses semantic issues with substantive ones.
If someone starts disagreeing over wording for something that's clearly-stated and correct as the words are used and intended, then they're probably not worth talking to.
@MarcheseMethods I knew I wanted to cite "classical cope theory" in one of my recent posts, I couldn't quite remember the exact phrase so I gave up on it and right after this tweet comes up in my feed.
Dammit!
All metrics of intelligence correlate with each other strongly. If you are logically smart, you also tend to absorb data in your head at faster rates than most, and you also create logical frameworks around said data you get such that it is internalized and memorization is needed much less.
Cope.

Look, I appreciate that not everyone wants to drink and that for some, alcohol and drugs have had a negative-to-terrible effect on their life. If that version of “fun” is not for you, fine. Go have a hot chocolate or whatever. But the younger generation seems to be avoiding the experience entirely, in exchange for something I see as much worse: a life lived online—dull, free of friends and relationships, as well as alcohol.
