history, sport, science & politics! green side but more about outcomes than party rosettes. works policy+pub affairs. Also podcasting, theatre & ancient glass!
Been lucky to visit Limoges a few times.
One of those rural French cities most won’t have heard of. But like most the civic centres are historic, awesome and beautiful.
This is some loss
Have no doubt they will look to rebuild.
.@ZackPolanski has to explain that conflating Jews with the state of Israel (like the PM did last week) is antisemitic and is making British Jews less safe.
Even if wales was indy in these times the infrastructure would have still been for extracting the resources. So east west and to ports as that was to markets.
Where else would wool, slate or iron rails, steam coal have gone?
It’s a great clip but only tells part of a story
Being in your 50s is honestly hilarious. 😂
One friend is a grandma, another still has a 10-year-old at home. One is celebrating 25 years of marriage, while another is dating someone who’s 25. One looks like they haven’t aged since 35, and another threw their back out just by sneezing.
Some are planning retirement, others are starting over after divorce. Some are becoming empty nesters, while others are still attending school meetings and making lunches. Some are booking cruises, others are discovering dating apps for the first time.
Half of us are saying, “Life is just getting started!” while the other half need three business days to recover from sleeping in the wrong position.
We’re all the same age, yet somehow living completely different lives. 😂
Nobody warned us that our 50s would look this chaotic, unpredictable, and entertaining. Honestly, we deserve a group discount on therapy, multivitamins, and heating pads. 😭
@spookydavidjohn Which i don’t disagree with. And didn’t specifically post on.
Much to it all like I say the clip only tells part of a hugely complicated situation.
The thinking is Indy wales would retain more capital and I’m sympathetic but capital flow is the bigger - global - issue for me
@spookydavidjohn For sure. But To be honest I only started the thread with a comment on markets and geography. That’s not changing indy or not. That was my starting point
Four years of this to say at the end, possibly rightly, we can’t Change wales without everything we want from Westminster. So basically indy wales.
Think we have to have a referendum early next session no matter what and agree it’s a once in a 20 year ref and decide either way.
Why does Wales need more powers?
This is a question we receive a lot, and it's a fair one.
It's not about having powers for the sake of it. It's about making sure our nation has the tools it needs to tackle the challenges we face.
So what powers are Plaid Cymru calling for, and what difference could they make?
🚔 Policing and justice: Powers over policing and justice would make it easier to join up the work of the police, courts and services such as health, housing and education to prevent crime and reduce reoffending.
🚆 Railways: More control over our rail infrastructure and investment would give us greater power to improve services, make trains more reliable and build better connections between communities across Wales!
🌊 Our natural resources: Control over the Crown Estate in Wales would enable us to reinvest profits in our communities just like Scotland does, and bring down energy bills.
💷 Fair funding: A fair funding settlement and more financial flexibility would mean more scope to invest in the NHS and the other vital public services we rely on, and enable us to plan for the future and respond to changing needs.
Not powers for power's sake, but tools to improve public services, strengthen our economy and deliver better outcomes for communities across Wales 🏴
@mathew1864@AdamGower_ It’s not though. I can send you my tax take and you control it. Thanks!!
Which I have said is a fine argument.
The main wealth of ownership, the capital created, is still free for movement whether indy or not unless we have a very different approach to society
@Barb_Drummond Book and film in
fifties.
There may be a series but not sure it’s about the book which is far more about Second World War in Japan really
The Eliis and Jon podcast just mentioned the book (and film) a town like Alice by Neville Shute.
Reminded me of one of my favourite books.
High recommend!!
@Ziggy_Zwela You wonder about alternative histories as much as you like. It is what it is ( and welsh pirates did very well in that plundering too)
At some point far more chat chat needs to be on the now / future without bemoaning a history that never was or a geography we don’t have
