A Meeting of Giants: A Rare Shot from the Voyager Archives 🛰
In this historic image, the moons Europa and Io are captured against the backdrop of Jupiter’s Great Red Spot. The scale is impressive: the giant storm—which has been raging on the gas giant for centuries—could easily swallow the entire Earth, while the passing moons vividly illustrate the colossal size of the Solar System's largest planet.
Astronomers have discovered the largest structure in the Universe 🌌
Scientists have identified the "Kipu" superstructure, which spans more than 1.3 billion light-years. With a mass of 200 quadrillion solar masses, it ranks among the most massive cosmic structures known. The name "Kipu" alludes to the ancient Inca system of knotted-string records; the newly discovered structure also resembles a main strand with branching offshoots.
The motion of galaxies within the structure influences measurements of the Hubble constant, which determines the rate of cosmic expansion. Despite its immense scale, the object aligns with the Lambda-CDM model, which predicts the existence of such formations. While Kipu may eventually disintegrate, it currently serves as a unique laboratory for studying dark matter and galaxy evolution.
The scale of space: tiny Mercury against the backdrop of the giant Sun 🪐
On May 9, 2016, the Solar Dynamics Observatory captured a rare astronomical event—the transit of Mercury across the solar disk.
Mantras are incredibly powerful and set you up for a top day. May I humbly and kindly and gratefully and positively suggest you use them. As part of your morning routine. Starting soon.
I mean, beginning tomorrow.
Love + respect,

On December 2, 2023, a huge dark patch appeared on the Sun — not an ordinary sunspot group, but a giant equatorial coronal hole. In NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory ultraviolet images it looks almost black: in that region the magnetic field opens into space, so the plasma is thinner and cooler than the surrounding corona.
Within a day the structure grew to about 800,000 kilometers across — roughly sixty Earth diameters. From December 4 it faced our planet and sent a high-speed solar wind stream toward Earth. That produced weak to moderate geomagnetic activity and auroras, not a catastrophe.
Ordinary sunspots were present that day as well. The largest active region was AR 3500, covering about 270 millionths of the solar hemisphere, plus several smaller groups. Next to the coronal hole they looked modest.
Coronal holes are a normal feature of the Sun, especially near solar maximum. The December 2 patch became famous because of its size and equatorial position, not because anything abnormal had happened to the Sun.
In the late 1980s my science teacher, also the head of the A/V department showed me this film (I was an A/V volunteer why I have so much of this stuff).
This is The City from 1939 and it is a very powerful film. It blew me away. And changed me.
I convinced him to show it to all his classes and it was loved.
I love everything about this movie. But especially the part where it said we could do better.
This movie was shown at The World’s Fair and influenced many. However Cronyism and corruption took our good senses and responses it to tribalism that nullified the will of those that saw this film and saw a healthy path.
Take the 45 minutes and know this was 1939.

Happy Father’s Day to all fathers and father figures around the world.
The image in this post features a lyric excerpt from Dream Theater’s The Best of Times alongside a photo of drummer Mike Portnoy with his father, Howard Portnoy. Mike wrote the song as a tribute to his father, making it one of the most personal and emotional songs in progressive rock.
What many of you may not know is that I lost my own father years ago. Because of that, both the song and its message have always resonated with me on a deeper level.
While Father’s Day is a day of celebration for many, it can also be a day of remembrance. If you’re spending today thinking about a father who is no longer here, you’re not alone.
Happy Father’s Day to everyone celebrating, remembering, and carrying their father’s memory in their hearts.

Happy Fathers Day. Remember, we’re all just passing through. All your stuff will be gone, sold or given away. Your children are your heritage. Be a father they can be proud of. 🇺🇸
