So let's raise a glass (maybe of wine to honor the grape boycott, as Chavez and Huerta would appreciate) to these two amazing activists who dedicated their lives to improving the lives of some of the most marginalized members of our society.
Today we honor the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez, a tireless advocate for the rights of farmworkers in the United States. He inspired a generation with his nonviolent tactics and helped bring about significant changes to labor laws.
But let's not forget to also celebrate and thank Dolores Huerta, who stood alongside Chavez in the fight for justice and equality, and remains an active supporter of women's rights, immigrant rights, and environmental justice.
Today, on international women’s day, we must acknowledge the heartbreaking reality that femicide and gender-based violence continue to threaten the lives and wellbeing of countless women in Guatemala and beyond. #8M
