Ég hef tekið ákvörðun um að stöðva hvalveiðar tímabundið í ljósi afdráttarlauss álits fagráðs um velferð dýra. Ef atvinnugreinar geta ekki tryggt að starfsemi þeirra sé í samræmi við lög um velferð dýra þá eiga þær sér ekki framtíð.

A concrete tank simply cannot provide an adequate environment for them. One way you can help today is by spreading the word- Ask a friend to take the pledge NOT to buy a ticket at: https://t.co/wx7P3D8lzy 🐬

Each June we celebrate #OrcaMonth and the unique community of Southern Resident orcas. 2023 is also the 50th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act, a landmark law that protects SROs so the theme this year is #LastingLegacies! https://t.co/bazFkbXn5L

One of the easiest ways to tell whether or not a facility is a legitimate "wildlife sanctuary" is by finding out if their dolphins perform for paying customers.
No legitimate sanctuary would ever train and exploit a rescued cetacean for profit.

Recently naturalist Bart Rulon of @psxpress photographed Bigg's orca T71B2 (b. 2018) and discovered that the whale is missing its left pectoral flipper! 🤯 They appear to be active and in good condition otherwise. We don't know if this was caused a birth defect or injury.
Dolphins possess the innate ability to come together to form large groups called superpods, forming an awe-inspiring spectacle that leaves us in wonder. 🐬
