🚨 Sir Alex Ferguson on Cristiano Ronaldo and how he’s been treated by the Portuguese coach:

“When some decisions involving Cristiano come out, people immediately make it look like he’s the problem, or that he’s arrogant.

The news came out that Ronaldo had left the camp because he wasn’t given enough playing time, and people started saying, ‘What does this 41-year-old man expect? Was he supposed to start every game? He should have retired by now.’

Even I thought, ‘Maybe there’s something to that.’ But then we heard Cristiano speak about it, and those words reminded me of the Cristiano I coached.

He never decided for the manager. I benched him many times. Other managers benched him too, and he never complained. That’s why I feel the coach is trying too hard to make a name for himself.

Cristiano is my boy. I know what he can do. He has always been willing to give others opportunities and help them grow, as long as there is mutual respect.

He deserves more from Portugal. People forget what that country was like before Cristiano. He gave them something they had never won and probably never imagined they could achieve.

He doesn’t have much time left now. So why not give him the farewell he deserves?

To me, Cristiano deserves a greater farewell than Messi. He gave Portugal what they had never had before.

Ronaldo can be arrogant, yes, but only on the pitch. Off it, he respects everyone, especially his managers.”
