🇨🇦🕯️ CANADIANS REMEMBERED 🕯️🇨🇦
SASS JORDAN
1962–2026
Canada has lost one of its great rock voices.
Sass Jordan, the powerhouse singer whose unmistakable raspy, soulful vocals became part of the soundtrack of Canadian rock, has died at the age of 63.
Born in Birmingham, England and raised in Montreal from the age of three, Jordan came up through the city’s music scene before breaking nationally with her 1988 debut album, Tell Somebody.
The title track helped introduce that voice to Canada — raw, soulful and impossible to mistake — and in 1989 she won the JUNO Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist.
Then came Racine in 1992.
It became the defining album of her career, producing Canadian rock-radio staples including “Make You a Believer,” “You Don’t Have to Remind Me,” “I Want to Believe” and “Goin’ Back Again.”
Her voice also reached one of the biggest-selling soundtracks in history when she joined Joe Cocker for the duet “Trust in Me” on The Bodyguard soundtrack.
And there was another remarkable chapter in her story.
A young drummer named Taylor Hawkins played in Jordan’s touring band before going on to worldwide fame with Foo Fighters. Hawkins later credited Sass with teaching him how to be in a rock-and-roll band and giving him his first rock-and-roll paycheque.
A later generation of Canadians came to know her through Canadian Idol, where she served as a judge throughout the show’s six-season run.
But through it all, Sass Jordan remained what Canadians first knew her as:
A rock singer.
An icon in Canadian rock music.
And one hell of a voice.
From Tell Somebody and Racine through Rats and the blues music she embraced later in her career, Sass leaves behind nearly four decades of music and a permanent place in Canadian rock history.
Sass Jordan died peacefully on October 2, 2026, surrounded by her family.
She was 63.
Rest in peace, Sass. 🇨🇦🕯️🎸

Our hearts are broken. It is almost impossible to find the words for a loss like this because Sass was so much more than a musician. She was joy. She was warmth, humour and that unmistakable laugh.
