My $20/month, 24/7 AI employee took a vacation in the middle of the day yesterday. Claude went down hard for a few hours yesterday and it just happened to be when my Project Coordinator skill was running and preparing for a weekly meeting. It had gotten through about half of what was needed but before the formal project summary I use in our meeting was done.

The day before I had loaded the Claude desktop app on a second laptop and found out that projects stay on the machine they are created in and aren't visible on the new machine.

These two events got me thinking that I don't have a backup plan for when my AI tools go down, who plans for that? I take it for granted that they will just work all of the time. It might be time to have a backup on ChatGPT or Grok...

In my last post, I talked about who owns the decision and how decisions fall apart without structure.

There’s a quieter failure mode that exists - Indecision.

Not because leaders lack intelligence or because teams don’t have enough data. But because making a call forces a harder conversation: accountability, tradeoffs, and consequences.

I hear it framed as discipline:
“We just need a little more information.”
“Let’s wait until it’s clearer.”
“One more pass will make the decision obvious.”
But clarity doesn’t usually arrive on its own. No decision is still a decision.

A mentor once told me:
“It’s easier to course correct after a wrong decision than to catch up after doing nothing.”

I’ve found that to be true. Most problems don’t explode. They grow quietly, while teams stay busy and leaders stay comfortable.

Indecision isn’t neutral. Delay is a leadership choice.

What decision is delayed because no one wants their name on it?

I keep thinking about decision-making. Most teams don’t fail to make decisions. They fail to own them.

The pattern is familiar. A decision gets talked through. A plan gets agreed to. Everyone leaves the meeting aligned. And yet, nothing actually changes.

Three things need to be explicit:
1. Ownership — Who is responsible for making the call?
2. Accountability — Who pays the price if it’s wrong, late, or ignored?
3. Consequence — What actually happens if nothing moves?

When those aren’t clear, the system quietly defaults to:
“I was busy with other work”
“We didn’t have all the information yet”
“I thought someone else was handling it”

You can have a strong strategy. You can have smart, motivated people. But if decisions don’t have a clear owner and a real consequence for inaction, execution will always stall.

Sharing early thinking doesn’t feel natural — it feels exposing.

Tools help you write and analyze.
They don’t help you tolerate being seen.

Here’s the mistake I see operators make:
They wait until decisions are fully baked before showing their thinking.

That’s backwards.

Influence — inside or outside the company — comes from making your thinking visible.
