1/ We have since resumed School screening activities in Harare, where we are visiting different schools in the Metropolitan province. This activity offers free eye screening to students, teachers and ancillary staff.

2/ This comes as we are procuring cutting edge equipment as well as continuous improvement for service delivery.

1/ As we thrive on improving our services, our team of Ophthalmic experts have been moving around our different centres in Zimbabwe, conducting refresher training for all Ophthalmic stuff.

2/ Before the activity, all children were sensitised on why we commemorate World Sight Day, and the importance of it.

1/ Here at Council for the Blind we commemorate World Sight Day the whole month of October. On the 24th and 25th of October, we were in Harare, commemorating the World Sight Day. We visited Widdecombe primary school, offering free eye health services to all pupils.

The screening and consultation will be ABSOLUTELY FREE. The Eye Units which will be conducting screening are:

Norton, Bulawayo, Gwanda, Bindura, Chinhoyi, Mutare, Marondera, Binga, Zvishavane, Gweru, Masvingo, Chiredzi, Victoria Falls and Harare.

This year our Eye Units in different provinces and districts across the country will be celebrating World Sight Day in a special way. Since this year's theme is focusing on children, we have planned to conduct free Eye screening in various schools.

2. Children in low-and-middle income countries with vision loss are 2-5x less likely to be in school.

3. Every day, young people miss out on learning and social opportunities because of a vision issue that could be treated, corrected and often cured.

What are the issues being addressed by this year's World Sight Day campaign???

1. 450 million children have a sight condition the requires treatment, with many unable to access affordable, available eye care.

As we celebrate World Sight Day this month, we campaign to ensure that children not only understand the importance of caring for their eye health but are also free from the weight of any social stigma associated with wearing glasses and other corrective treatments.
