Just not necessary on the section they were growing. No sight line, no impact on drainage or road edge.. I don’t understand.

Visited this same verge this evening with the kids and we counted 23 spikes of Bee Orchids and similar number of Pyramidal Orchids!
@Torbay_Council Can you reassure that this section will not be strimmed this year until later in the season?

.@Torbay_Council have been doing some excellent non-mowing of the verges near @CFGS 👍 There are dozens of Pyramidal Orchids about and this evening, I found a collection of 7 stalks of Bee-Orchids! 😃

A good Springish session with the Year 7 & 8 birders today: Our first Chiffchaffs of the year on site and a new rookery under construction in trees which had a pair of Buzzards in last year 😬
20 species in all 🙂

A great session with the Year 7 and 8 Birders on Friday. 20 Species in all. We were expecting a few different birds on patch with the strong easterlies and picked up 2 more gull species than usual + lots of ground-feeding birds on the sports fields including a Mistle Thrush 😃

Also spotted 2 Mistle Thrushes on the football field opposite the school on the way home - interesting to see if they stick around..

A good meeting yesterday with the Year 7s and 8s. 17 species in total but included 2 Jays. Lots of pair behaviour and plenty of singing starting. 🌱🙂

A Corvid fest at yesterday’s Year 7, 8 & 10 Birdwatching Club: Magpies were mobbing a perched Buzzard, then joined by Rooks, Carrion Crows and Jackdaws - and a supporting pair of Jays squawking in the background! Also three Redwings overhead and one Chiffchaff calling. 👌

First meeting of the Y9/11 CFGS birdwatching group on Friday. Blustery conditions but lots of small birds around in flocks: Chiffchaff, various Tits, Goldcrests and at least two Firecrests calling and singing! Also 3 Swallows feeding and heading S. 16 Sp seen in total. 😃

A 20 species day with the Year 9s &11s on Thursday’s CFGS Birdwatching club: Spring is really starting to get going! Pairs of Greenfinch, Buzzard and Blue Tit around the site. Highlight was this singing Firecrest! 😃

A great session with our Birdwatching Year 7s, 8s and 10s today. 17 species altogether with lots of them singing. Our first couple of Chiffchaffs were very welcome. Also some Jelly Ear Fungus spotted by one of our keen eyed Y7s 👌

A fab #CFGS Birdwatching meet on Thursday with the Y9s and Y11s. Our usual super-friendly Robin was on good form and one of our party spotted a Roe Deer in the nearby fields, which then turned into three! 10 bird species in all. 😃

Great #CFGS Birdwatching Club today with 8 young people from Years 7 & 10. We managed a healthy 13 species for the #RSPB #bigschoolsbirdwatch including a Kestrel - a rare bird for the site! 💪😃

Great CFGS Birdwatching Club meet today. Chiffchaffs, Buzzards, Goldfinches, Jay and best of all, a small flock of Redwings and Song Thrushes overhead calling. Proper autumnal. Also plenty of butterflies - including a Holly Blue - and several chunky Hornets. 😃

In better news: The Y8/10 group today had a great finale when a Peregrine flew low over the field we were walking past and then circled above us before moving off south. Got the pulse racing! First time peregrine for some of the group. 👌
